Just moved last week. Renting a trailer from an old farmer. Said I can have the run of his place.  He has a field next to a swamp. Saw tracks when riding the property lines with him. I went in the field and ran three hens out about 6:00 this evening. Let it quiet down and did some calling every now and then. nothing was gobbling. Im a righty so my gun was pointed left. I had just finished cutting on a mouth call and was looking around. Looked over to my right and saw that red head. He had slipped up to the field and was watching but didnt say a word and just slipped back in the woods. Im gonna try him in the am.

Its my story this season. They just wont talk or do anything.

He talked enough and there is another.

Dead by 6:45.

left spur 7/8, right spur 7/8. Beard 9 7/8.

Cant weigh him yet. gonna run down to the feed and seed and put him on their scale. Had my digital scale in my truck yesterday, now it has gone missing.

Went to where I saw the bird yesterday evening early in pitch black dark. Set up decoy in field. Sat down and didnt make a peep. A crow came over about 6:30 and he hammered about 100 yards in the woods. Well I have to work at 8 so I wasnt going to wait on him at the field. I slipped down in the woods. I get in about 45 yards or so and see a nice opening in some mixed hardwoods and big pines.  I started to sit down and then told myself slip 10 more yards. I eased up about 5 yards and hens started clucking all around me and purring. I sat down and started doing the same. He hammered in a tree 40 yards from me. This went on for about 10 minutes. I did a wing fly down and he hammered and dropped straight out of the tree into the opening. Trigger was pulled before he could finish going into strutt.
