I hunted the first weekend and the first few days of the second week primarily on Corps of Engineers land and the Mark Twain National Forest in the Poplar Bluff area this season and did not hear the first gobble.  I'm debating coming back up the latter part of this week to finish out the season. Can someone that hunts that area tell me if the birds have become more vocal in the last week so I can make up my mind???  It appears that the harvests have doubled in Butler and Wayne Counties just in the last week by looking at the harvest map.  Thanks for any info you can share.

I just spent the last 2 weeks in Shannon and Texas counties. Very tough hunting where we were, I manages to tag 2 but other guy along with the locals have been skunked so far. Gad I left before the rain hit..

Sounds like we're hunting the same area.  Birds are pretty quiet and some of those areas maybe flooded now, at least access to them.  It seems like they have pretty much went downhill since season opened.

No clue we would work birds every day, some we were able to get within 60 yds late in the morning. Most times when u get to where they have been and call it is game over.  Very strange year, seen lots of hens and zero jakes.  I worked a bird at 10, saw him come on a bench below me. He strutted and gobbled for 2 hours. And I know he was alone.

It's been tough in my neck of the woods here in southeast Missouri as well. Not real sure what the problem is. My best guess is the weather. We just can't get a few days of good weather in a row to get them crankin. One day you may hear a few, the next day not a peep.
