Well I am getting closer to my first turkey hunt. And having my primary weapon ready(backup weapon is ready)
I added adjustable Williams Fire Sights to my 24in ported barrel 835.I read I can use field, clay or small game loads to get a basic sight in zero. And then fine tune with my turkey loads. What distance would I do this at with light loads?
I plan to deep clean as well..Do I ned to wait till after im done with light loads before I deep clean?

Thanks in advance

Deep clean first! Shoot field loads at 10 yards until you blow out a 2-3 inch bull, then take it to 40 and fine tune it. Some guns like a clean barrell. Some like a dirty one. I just run a dry patch down the bore every 3 shots. Good Luck!

Does it matter what field loads you use?  Meaning should the length of shell and shot size match length and shot size of the turkey load?

Thanks!

I do try to match shot size somewhat, but it really doesn't make much difference.  Get what is cheap and light recoil and enjoy.

I am matched shot size wise, but just outta dumb luck..I got a dozen-ish  2 3/4 6shot rabbit/squirrel loads.I am gonna hope thats enough rounds to get a rough inital zero with the Williams FireSights I just got.I picked up some 3in/6s Win LongBeard XRs.Not to match size or anything, just gonna see how they do.Maybe they pattern well for me maybe not?..

If I end up needing more than 12-ish light loads to get my zero se,I will pick up some more of something cheap an 12ga..That is what I am doing, but I dont know crap lol

personally I use a 1" square to shoot 2 3/4" shells at.  Once I shoot out the 1" square I move to 40 yards and put up a 36" x 36" target with a 1" square in the center for the turkey loads.  1" square causes you to aim finer.  Just what I do.

What distance do you do the 1inch sqr deal at?
