Still waiting on my stock to come back. The sales rep at Black hawk called me the other day and let me know that it is on a 6 month back order. He is going to take a Mossberg stock and switch the mounting head with a Remington 870 head for me and get it to me in a week or two. Very happy with the customer service I am receiving from them. Should have the scope back in about 2 weeks from BSA. After today I am contemplating keeping it off of the gun.
But just to be sure I could handle without the scope, and stock, I did a little pattern testing today. I was using my 870 with Tru-Glo Gobble stopper choke, 28" vented rib barrel, (camo black hawk fore end with factory laminate stock "will be my ghetto rig, if the rest doesn't come in) .
Shells were 3" HEVI-SHOT 1 3/4 oz #6.
Drew a quick turkey head on the back of a grocery box, and paced 40 yards. sat down on the ground, put the bead just a bit above where red touches black and here is the result.
ended up with 185 in a 10" circle centered on the turkey head, and the pattern was pretty much centered there as well. counted 64 in the head and neck area.
I was going to play around with loads, and chokes but feel this was a pretty good pattern. Even if I was off few yards in actuality with only pacing that is still enough to make me happy. I was going to try magnum blends but think that there is no real need to switch. I had thought the the shells I bought were magnum blends but after reading the side I found out I was wrong. I was contemplating going to #7 but that many bbs in the head/neck is good enough and I am happy with the little extra weight on the pellets.
Would you guys be happy with this pattern, and be happy with it to 40ish yards. I don't plan on shooting past that, but want to be sure the bird will flop at 40. Hoping to reel them in closer than that.
By the way don't pick on my art work

I see he I shot makes a 2 oz load in #6 3". Would I benefit with using this load instead of the 1 3/4 oz?

Most people do get better patterns with the 3-2-6 load vs the 1.75 oz load, but that is a deadly combination you have right now.

I wouldn't change a thing, that is smoking out to as far as you need/can ethically kill. That gobble stopper is a great little choke. Shoots 4's and 5's very well also.

If you really want to try out the 2oz loads, then go for it. But you are doing pretty good for a factory 1 3/4oz load.
Plus your POA & POI are right on. You may not get that with the 2oz load, but you'll never know without shooting one.

Super pattern, I wouldn't let them get too close.

My numbers were similar with the 1.75oz and 2oz loads of #6 Hevi 13 through an 870 & .665 Indian Creek choke tube. That is a good pattern right there. I would hunt that 7 days a week.

That will do for sure. My stoeger throws an identical pattern with those and I found a place that had those shells for 7.99 per box and I only picked up 2 boxes. Im kicking myself for not buying them all for that price.

Regarding 3" Hevi13 #6's:
The 1.75 oz load of Hevi13 #6's is a good load, as well as the 2 oz load.
For some reason, the 1 5/8 oz load won't do numbers anywhere close to those two heavier loads.
Either of the heavier loads give me High 150's at 40 Yards with an Indian Creek .665
The lighter load does in the 90's, or just above 100 at 40 Yards. The 1 5/8 ounce load just doesn't do well enough to justify the expense.
