WMAhunter story on his bird brought up a question I have wondered for years. How on earth do you track a wounded bird? I and jdavidson can track deer with no problem but I have never had to track a bird that I shot. I have heard if they are hit they will fly away with one leg up and one leg down but idk any thing else on this subject!

I have used a dog before to find wounded turkeys and deer.  I was only about 2 miles from the house when I shot the one last Saturday and I was going to go home and get my dog if I hadn't found him on my own. Had to track down 4 in my time and found 3 and lost 1.

My experience with turkeys is that they will not go far if hit very bad but will find somewhere they can hide..usually under something thick like a brush pile or in some palmettos.  All of them I have found have been at or less than 100 yds from the shot.
