1st day in the woods, I heard lots of gobbling but could not get close. I know I am in the right area, so tomorrow I am going to try and sneak in a little closer.
I am on public land so If I heard them somebody else probably did to, and hopefully nobody else messes me up.

Sounds promising. Good luck. I know public land in FL can be very tough.

Went out yesterday and got close. The birds fly down 100 yds from me, Tom and 5 hens, I watched him strut 80yds from me for an hour and then the hens take him away.
Today I sat up where they flew down yesterday, and if they do everything the same I will have a 20yd shot. They flew to the other side of the field and went in the other direction.
Had one come out later in the day, after running and gunning a little, when I was taking a break and eating lunch, but could not get him any closer than 80yds. On the way out on the road we had a nice gobbler 30yds from the truck walking in the road.
It was a fun 3 day hunt, heard more gobbles than ever.
Next Monday is my special Oppurtunity hunt, hopefully I can keep getting closer.

Going out again Saturday and Sunday. There was one qouta hunt since the last time I was in this wma. So hopefully no one hit the birds that hard.
Hopefully the hens are on the nest so the gobblers will work a little easier.

Had an amazing hunt and morning in the woods this morning. Bird we were after didnt gobble till about 730 well after daylight. Gobbled once on the roost and pitched into the middle of a field, and began lightin the world on fire. To say he was hot is an understatement. We got set up not 100 yards away and all he had to do was come around a small clump of trees and be in my lap. Well that didnt happen we battled him for 2 hours right there. He just wouldnt break his strut zone. He finally got spooked out of the field by something but not sure which. He came right through my area at 50 yards, but I couldnt swing quick enough. He hit the ridge and went quite for close to 10 mins. We just sat tight and knew he wasnt with a hen so he would be fired up agian soon. He finally gobbled half way up the ridge. We made the move and had him back within 70 yards but once again wouldnt break his zone to come check the hen. After 3 hours of battling this ol boy his girlfriend found her way back to him and took him away. We didnt get a bird but man that will definatley be a very memorable hunt! Nothing better.

Awsome Trevor, keep after them and you will get one.
My weekend in the woods was not so great. I could some it by saying public land.
Saturday my buddy called me at 6:00 to tell me a guy was heading right for me, even after he was told someone was already set up there. So I packed up and walked a half mile back and never heard or saw a bird.
Today I went out to the same wma, different spot. We walked back about half a mile, I was working a bird from sunrise until about 8:30, he gobbled several times. I had an old man, I think it was a grandfather and his granddaughter, walk right thru my set up. He said he was sorry but had to get to his truck, as soon as he got 100 yds from me in the direction I last heard the gobble, he started calling to the bird. My buddie was on the same bird with his safety off and the bird was close, and he said he heard a box call getting closer and closer to him. The bird stopped gobbling and disappeared. Not exactly teaching her the right way to hunt.
You gotta love public land hunting.

Well got off work for half day this evening and ate lunch and headed for the woods. It was 330 before I got one to gobble and I was surprised bc I have never got one to gobble in the evening. I called in two hens though. Got him to gobble twice but he just wouldnt come out of the holler to see me. About an hour past after he gobbled and I was confident he was gone. I stood up to change locations and a super jake hammered in the same holler. I jumped back down and shot him a call and he continued to hammer for a while but he wouldnt commit out of the holler either. Storming pretty good now, so Ill have to wait and see if I get tomorrow evening off to get my butt in that holler.
