Drove through my land around noon today and spotted a jake with about 4 long beard gobblers from the truck. I just drove out of there like that. I've hunted this land for years so know their tendencies, but still good to see some up close.

Not exactly scouting, but on my way to work this morning I had 3 strutters right on the side of the road about 2 miles from the house! Got me pumped even though I don't hunt there.

walked down the road in the pitch black and he gobbled 75 yards down the main road of my property.
I eased off the side a couple steps and listened to him. He gobbled just at crows. (which is rare for this place and being that I heard several horned and barred owls) I was CLOSE and could hear no hens but a week from today (opening day) he'll have 10 hens with him! I eased back and left him in the tree at gobble number 35!

went to listen yesterday morning. my bud and i heard 6 or 7 gobbles. nothing great and we were confused because there are usually a bunch of birds around that area. we left and my bud called last night. he had lost his phone so he went back up there to see if he had lost it on the hill. well he saw some birds out in the next feild so he went and got hin "nocs" and slipped to the tree line. 11 long beards no hens or jakes were feeding in the field. and no he didnt find his phone because he had lost it at his house it had fell behind the couch lol but man am i glad he went back. now we dont have to scout any more lol.

Sounds like we have some pretty promising spots for some good birds. My buddy went out to his land and saw a couple strutters yesterday with "about 30 hens" and said we should go out there sometime this year so that's another spot I might have to hunt
I'm letting my land rest after doing most of the prep work already. I might go listen the day before the season next wednesday to see if i can hear anything for next thursday.

Heard 5 gobble this morning and saw 5 more. All gobblers and not a hen anywhere around. Also i joined a new deer hunting club today and asked about turkey hunting and no one on the club turkey hunts. I have the whole place to myself. Now if i can just locate a turkey or two.

Congrats on the club! Looks like you fell into a great opportunity. Hope you find some birds, and where did you hear the 5? Public or private land?
