Box call chalk

I asked a very well known call maker when I picked up my first box from him.  He showed me red railroad road chalk. I bought exactly what he showed me.  Turned out it was a case.  I have 144 pieces.. lol

Some box call makers include a piece of chalk with the box. I have enough of those pieces to last a lifetime it seems. If the call came with white chalk I use white, if it came with red I use red, etc.

I keep my chalk in my Gun safe which has a Browning Golden Rod Safe heater in it. Keeps it very dry, chalk sucks up any moisture which will lead to bad sounding boxes. I also use the Primos Chalk on my push-pins through Shannon's recommendation. Always worked real well for me. Be safe...

Ok, so the chalk a lot of mass market companies use is white.  That I don't like.

So, why red over blue?
