128 at 40 is a good lead pattern no doubt!

Those Federal 7s you're referring to were substantially heavier than lead along the lines of 15g/cc. If you shot one at 40 and didn't kill him you can guarantee you failed on pattern not penetration.
i think the grand slams, atleast the ones I have are just plated lead. The heavyweight 7's you're referring to were some awesome shells.

They never made Grand Slams in 7 lead.  Unless he's referring to the really really old Federal Premium blue/gold box 7.5 shot lead. Those were awesome out to 40 as well.
