Longbeard XR accuracy issues with “new box”

I know everyone else in the world is TSS but I'm one of the holdouts.

Cutting to the chase, I've been shooting longbeard XR for the last handful of years. Today I went out to pattern my gun and make sure all was well. It was...until I opened up the new box of XRs. My 40 yard pattern went from 80-100 pellets of 5 shot, in a 10" circle down to 38. That's the only one I counted but the next shot was just as abysmal. I then went back to 20 yards and I don't think I had 50 pellets in the circle compared to the 120+ or whatever I had just minutes before. It's like the new packaging came with a whole new load!

Anyway, just seeing if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. Whatever else they changed, besides packaging, my gun doesn't like it. Back to the federal grand slams! A very comparable pattern, the XR was just a hair tighter, again, until today.

Longbeards seem to have consistency issues, of course it's possibly the most popular 12ga turkey load so there is a lot of it in circulation.

Sorry I have no real answer for you but if you google it I would imagine it would be a common issue.

Shake a shell, is the resin broken up in shell?

Googling now, I just assumed it was a fairly new issue but potentially not.

I flat out don't know. But also go to Florida in two weeks. Flights, drew the tag, the whole nine yards. Big trip. I can't trust the shells on an in state hunt, let alone a hunt like this.

Just some quick info for those looking. Just one day ago a guy posted this

And this guy. I was using the 50 anniversary box.

That shell shot the best when they first introduced it and got worse with each year after for whatever reason.

Glad i found this thread...I almopst bought some yesterday due to the low price. Ultimately decided to hold off.

The turkey hunting shotshell market really needs someone to fill the need for reliable, accurate lead loads that maximize payload and pellet count...

I've been using them for years and never had a problem, but I have heard others complain over the past few years

I was a diehard LBXR guy until a box of 20ga 3" #6's let me down and down in a BIG way. I contacted Winchester and their first question was "what's the lot number"? When I told them the next thing was send them back ASAP please. They made it right with more ammo and even a check but I'm done with them. A friend bought a new Remington Fieldmaster 20ga youth along with some LBXR 3" #5's. I was there when he fired the first LBXR and I had to take his gun apart to get the spent shell out. He tried again and same result, had to take it apart again to get the spent shell out. He tried one more time and after the shot packed up his stuff and went directly to the LGS to complain about the gun. Gun store guy took the gun apart to get the spent shell out and then grabbed several different 20ga 3" turkey loads and drove him to their range. He fired everything the guy brought without a hitch, gun cycled perfect. Gun store guy said the only complaints he's ever had with 20ga turkey loads were from LBXR's.
Now, with all that being said, I'm waiting on the day I can walk into a sporting goods store and buy a box of quality 20ga 3" #6 lead with 1.5oz of shot.

The lead or duplex lead TSS loads are coming, several small companies starting t0 make them and the duplex pattern I saw looked pretty good, far better than straight lead!

I think by spring 27 we will have some good options.

All that said I will still be throwing TSS at em!

In 12 years of shooting 6s I've never had an issue.
