Turkeyman

I first turkey hunted the spring of '76. My dad always said he'd like to get a wild turkey. My plan was to take him the spring of '77, but he died the summer of '76.

Mine would be my buddy and mentor, Larry Proffitt.  I've learned so much from that soft-spoken, TN mountain man.  He's become like a a second grandfather to me after mine passed away in 2010.  The man is a turkey hunting machine.  But he's taught me so much more about life, family, and the Lord.  Second would be my best bud, Guy.  He & I call with different styles and we've proven to be lethal on many a SC wily gobbler.  I always look forward to getting out there with him each spring.

Honestly no one.  Here's why.  I thought about this long and hard and if it had to be one person then it would be my daughter, Dr. Anna.  Opening day was always reserved for her and me, no matter what.  She passed away 12-30-2020 and it has taken a long time for me to savor the memories of opening day and our time together.  So yes it would have to be her if I had to chose but at the of the day I would have to give her back and I couldn't go through it again.

I hunt alone. Me against him. Care nothing about yelping one up for someone else, or they yelping one up for me. To me, turkey hunting has always been serious business

Tail Feathers

So many true characters to choose from.  My father (who  never hunted turkey), I would choose Col. Tom Kelly.  A day spent with him would be one to remember I bet.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

I'm like Greg Massey, besides family  uncle or dad --- so excluding family --- I would take Jesus.  If you don't allow Jesus, because that is the ultimate, I'll take Ben Lee.

I can honestly say I have never had the desire to hunt with any celebrity/youtube/video hunter or anyone I didn't respect as a person. I will gladly go with anyone I trust to be safe and good company.

I happen to know there's a couple guys on the forum who secretly fantasize about hunting with a G.O.A.T., perhaps we could grant your Hunt of A Lifetime some day, JeffC or Lecire.  :funnyturkey:

I'd give up a whole season for one more hunt with my dad. It could be pissin' down rain and not a bird gobbling, but I think I would still make that trade.

Agreed. My dad is still alive but he has COPD and Emphysema with something like 25 or 30% lung capacity so he can't walk and hunt them like we used to when we learned how to turkey hunt together when I was a young boy. I'd give anything to have him hunt with me now like we used to, just one more time

My Dad, of course. He was an avid quail hunter but died seven years before turkey hunting opened in our part of Missouri. I don't know if he would have enjoyed it, wing shooting was his thing, but I would have loved for him to have had the opportunity.
