Quote from: Happy on Today at 07:46:03 AMI have seen Facebook absolutely wreck areas first hand. Some yahoo has to brag about hearing x amount of gobblers in such and such spot and the next thing you know the area is flooded. I just don't understand this need for attention that supposedly grown men absolutely have to have these days. I mean, I play the charismatic, look at me type on OG. But in real life and in my turkey hunting, I preference to lay low.

Yeah, it just floors me how someone will ask a question on FB as to where to go hunting here in my state and someone will just tell them exactly where to go. Of course, sometimes it is to throw somebody off track, but often enough, someone is giving out genuine information. When I see those guys doing that, I just say to myself..."You obviously haven't been turkey hunting long enough to know better...".

Yes to this.. Welcome and help to all who show interest to this. Welcome everyone and Pay it forward.

The pin swapping guys in the Facebook groups can't seem to understand that every area they give up is someone else's hunting area.
It's possibly one of the most selfish and inconsiderate thing you can do to other hunters.

Had a brute of a black bear on my radar. Some knucklehead took a picture of it. Put it on fb and told the location. A none hunter. That bear is gone. We'll it was fun while it lasted. I don't  get people sometimes.

I totally get what you guys are saying, and I am not sure I am even able to post spots on some social media site. Pretty challenged technologically. I have to usually get help to even post pictures on this site.

BUT - I still try to have a little empathy (as I know you all do as well) when in the woods. It goes against every ounce of my flesh and my gun even threatens to shoot me when I do it, but sometimes you just have to help a green horn out.

Two years ago - had a bird just totally ready to play on opening day - got to the woods way early and a young fellow who had never killed a turkey showed up as well at that same gate. I was talking to him and realized that he was fixing to walk off the other side down into  a black hole of a never ending briar patch to hunt that morning - and I just could not let him do that. I said, "Hey dude, come with me today." He gladly accepted and even though in my flesh I knew that my hunting was over for the day, we had a great time on the mtn that day. Turns out, the young man (a true gentleman I might add) had just gotten out of the Navy after serving for I think either 7 or 9 years, and was just trying to integrate back into civilian life and had never killed a turkey before. Long story short, we had the Turkey within 15 yards of him later that day, but he did not feel comfortable with the shot presented. But I was glad I tried to help him even though I knew he had my spot pegged and would come back and come back he did.

Fast forward to last spring - he texts me at 3:00 am wanting to know if I was coming. LOL - Anyway, I did a repeat of opening day from the year before with him on the same mtn and again had a bird at 20 yards and he has yet to pull the trigger. It's ok, I tagged out on an even better bird the next week in that Public block on Wednesday. A small part of me hope he crashes my opening day once more this season.

sounds like it was meant to be. You made a friend. God gives us friends for a reason. I believe you'll be a good influence on that young man.Best to you.

I watch a video series on YouTube about upland bird hunting called The Flush. Usually they're what I would call "acceptably vague" about where they are hunting like "we're in central South Dakota" but this week I watched a couple episodes where they totally gave up where they were hunting. One of the episodes they even showed a map of the block management unit they were hunting.

Spot burn has been a problem since the beginning of time. I remember reading an article in Sports Afield by Homer Circle back in the '60's in which he was gripping about other writers giving up fishing spots.

Nice done 🙌

A lot of us here put in some serious work on public land scouting. I'm definitely not sharing a pin on FB, spot burn exists for sure. As far as social media and turkey hunting, OG is it for me. Nothing else.

I've witnessed spot burn in fishing many times. This is something We'll never understand.

I love taking a newby out and introduce him/her
to what we do. To share a great turkey hunt experience with someone who's new to the game is priceless, they'll never forget it.

well I guess I am the dumb arse on here. I have always respected Sam for his generosity and I actually offered to help him out. There are some people who deserve the benefit of the doubt. Now I just look like a foolish old man, live learn.
