Back in 2016 I got sick of paying $10-$15 for a mouth call and decided to journey into creating my own mouth calls (after realizing I could make them for $1). When trying to begin, it was a brutal process. In searching for a jig, there were either extremely cheap and well... cheap jigs, and then there were jigs that were good quality but costing more than $250 which was well out of my price range. I decided to build one. After few hours in my garage, I was able to build a functional jig using a wood screw clamp mechanism and some scrap plywood. After that, the process of learning to make calls began. Online, there were a few posts and short videos showing someone making a call, but beyond that there was nothing to help a beginner. I went through about 15 calls before I had something that remotely sounded like a turkey. I have to admit, from finding a jig to making a call, it was extremely frustrating.

Fast forward to today. I realized that there must be others who are sick of paying insane prices for mouth calls (I talked to a customer today who pays $18 per mouth call). I decided to change the game. I designed a highly accurate, easy to use jig that I can easily manufacture and sell for a fair price. After the jig was finished, I designed a website with resources for new call makers. Including call recipes, ideas of new cuts, and educational information on how to make calls. I am also putting together a YouTube channel to educate hunters on how to build calls.

This is where I need your help. I want to preserve the art of turkey call making and am looking for call recipes for others to submit. If you have made mouth calls in the past and want to share it with the world, now is your chance. Please go to my website, fill our the mouth call log with information about your call, include a sound file if you desire, and I will post it for others to use. Turkey hunting is about community and enjoyment. I believe that making calls should not be expensive and it should not be a secret. I remember the first time that a turkey responded to my mouth call and the feeling blew me away knowing that I crafted something that fooled a wild animal. I want others to experience the same emotions that I feel every year. Thank you for your time and I appreciate everyone's support who has submitted a call recipe.

Hey Ezra,...Good luck with your endeavor. You have obviously put in a lot of effort with this and I hope it works out for you.  As you are probably aware, there has been a lot of discussion about this subject on the site over the years...but only from a handful of us mouth call junkies that frequent this place. As much as we preach the benefits of making one's own calls...both skill-wise and financially...there seems to be limited interest by "the masses". Maybe you will spur some new interest amongst the group.   :icon_thumright:

GobbleNut, you'd be surprised by the interest I've received. I'm not one bit discourage and have been selling jigs nonstop everyday since I released my product. A majority of the customers that I have talked to are new call makers with little to no experience and based on my conversations with them, my hypothesis of why no one is making calls is coming true. There are cheap junky jigs and expensive jigs, nothing in between. Then there is no information available about how to make mouth calls. I have scoured the internet for years and have not found practically nothing from call makers sharing the specs (reed thickness & stretch) on their calls. Also, for every single jig on the market, not one of them provides resources on how to actually make calls (beyond how their jig functions). They sell them a jig and then it's "thanks for buying my product, good luck, the rest is on you". There seems to be just a small group of individuals who make their own calls and share very little information with others. I'm wondering why? What is so secretive about sharing how to make mouth calls? I think that every turkey hunter should be making their own mouth calls as mouth calls are not a 1 size fits all type of deal. The way to learning should not be searching through 10 year old forum posts with partial information. Your more that welcome to submit your favorite call to help the noobs!

Considerations...
I don't think too many guys that spent lots of time, money, etc would be super willing to "hand over the goods" if you know what I'm saying.
Imagine a guy spends all spring scouting, wear n tear on his truck, time away from the family, lots of money involved. Now he just posts that info to be a "team player" so to speak.
Do you see pot call, box, etc guys posting what they've figured?
As a group the guys on here give lots of good advice/info.
Specifics though should be learned by the individual in order for it to be worth anything.
I'll give you a consideration. Give your kid a car he crashes it. Let him cut lawns 3 years to save for it that means something. Has value.
Maybe you should give your personal advice on your jigs. Im not talking at you but for one if we haven't used them how would we even know where to start?
Next thing is I'd give  recommended areas to stay within explaining how dif reed number for instance could change things.
When I first started I bought a feather ridge hand jig off a guy. I didn't ask him specifics, but merely the desired way to lay reeds, maybe show me a couple cuts, and about where I wanted to stretch. It gave me a start point but not an end all.
Next and I've gotta be blunt so excuse me. But all this info would basically be to your benefit unless you donated a part of your proceeds to the forum you're asking to help you?
Now I guarantee if someone has questions after they took initiative plenty of guys would lend help. I bet some would even post or pm recipes/ideas
Hope that comes off as it was intended. Good luck to you
