Spring Creek Calls

Deer population has been decimated but turkey hatch seems to be a success. Between 25-30 hens and young with a strutter following behind. Most had passed before getting my phone out.

What decimated your Deer population?  We had the hemorrhagic disease here pretty bad this summer, was unaware it had spread beyond a few counties

EHD took almost all the deer in the vicinity where I  live and hunt. As seems like always the case with EHD, devastation in one area and a few miles away everything is normal.

Turkeybutt

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, tired, beat, thoroughly used up and totally worn out from chasing turkeys and loudly proclaiming; "WOW -- What a Ride!"

We found 8 here on my place and neighbors,  had the WV DNR biologist come out and take some samples.  Let me tell you, that man earned his money gutting a dead deer in July.GROSS. But he said EHD happens every year but some years there were very few infections and other years, like this one, it devastated areas.  You are correct,  if you look at the EHD map in my area, its confined to just a few counties in WV and Ohio along the river but seems to not be a factor in others.  The first frost kills it I am told.
