I'm contemplating my travels and planning for next spring. When do you traveling hunters do the same?

HunterMan

As soon as my season ends...sometimes sooner.

GobbleNut

Already in discussions with my hunting buddies as to the possibilities...and who might be interested in participating in a number of hunts on the dart board. As far as confirmations go, however, we probably won't finalize anything until around the start of 2026.

I definitely have two hunts that I will try to arrange regardless of whether anybody else decides to participate or not. Those are not sure bets, though, and if one or both fall through, I will likely replace them with other trips. Those are annual priorities. There is also one new out-of-state hunt that may fall into place but we are waiting to see if the stars align for it to happen.

Being retired, I could hunt a lot more than I do nowadays. I am generally satisfied with hunting my home state and a couple of others each spring. I like to turkey hunt about as much as anybody, but there is a line for me...apparently much sooner for me than some others here...when it becomes tedious rather than fun.

No plans yet as far as specifics, I just plan on hunting as much as possible.  Have a few new ideas and places in mind for next year, but also have some friends wanting to come hunt with me so that will be the deciding factor for specific plans.

Looking forward to it as usual!!!

I have done some guided hunts in the past with good success. I do the hotel deal with the wife she works on her volunteer work and has a meal for me when I get back. It has worked out well. The reason for this is I can't get my buddies interested in road trips for birds. To each his own I guess. I just don't like traveling alone anymore. This year I spent some time in the mountains stayed at a local hotel then the following week at my sons. Gonna branch out to neighboring  states for 26 good Lord willing.

Yes sir. That's how I did it back in the day. My buddies would say how did you find this spot? I would reply that's why maps are made. When it's over here in NY most states are closed besides a couple
 here in the NE.

Already tried one place for next year, couldn't work the dates out with the outfitter.  Still working.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

Next spring will be my first as a retiree. Can't wait to see new places to hunt. My scheming and planning never stops.

Already have 26 and most of 27 planned. I'm
Always at a least a year ahead.

As soon as the season ends, I'm looking at next years plans. I usually redo where I want to go 10-15 times. But by October, it's set. I start booking rooms, Air bnb's etc by end of December.

Ha - what I thought as well - still not enough time to hunt as much as I would like!!

.

DIY trip this Spring to WY took a few months and then changed my location a < 2-weeks before I left.

If using an outfitter, you probably need more time.

Well I usually fly by the seat of my pants.  I might decide where I want to go and then I end up in that state.  I'm lucky to know a lot of people many of whom aren't turkey hunters so I ask a lot of questions about where and what time of the season. Honestly I'm enjoying the experience of being new places and instead of trying to kill as many as i can I'm finding myself being content with taking 3-4 birds per year and relaxing.  A couple of trips to one or two states each trip and it's good.
Nothing like seeing a kids eyes light up upon hearing that first gobble.

In another year or two I probably won't even buy green bananas due to my age.  :TooFunny:  Two years ahead on hunts is unlikely.
