Chest Packs

Is there anyone who actually downsized and got out of there vest?

I'm looking for any ideas or reviews. I hunted in the rain 2 days this season. One thing I can't stand is a wet vest. I'd rather pack light with minimal gear in those conditions.

Maybe even purchase a new wet box.

I use one for my afternoon hunts.  Even when it is cool.  More mobile, shorter hunts typically. I suppose I could learn to adapt, but when I am away from the truck for 5-6 hours, I want the stuff in the vest.  I did wait out a rainstorm this year, but I was in the vest.

I hunted in the rain quite a bit this spring. I just took and old fanny pack and put some bare essentials in it and hunted. A lot easier to dry out than a vest. I didn't even take a seat cushion, just sat on the ground in my rain gear. Let's face it, if it's raining it's hard to sit for hours in one spot in the timber.

Johnny, The last two years I've used a Sitka turkey tool belt. It is a little more roomy than a chest rig and I can carry some snacks, TP, turkey tote, water and a couple other minimal things along with calls and spare shells. I have an FHF Gear box call pouch on the belt to carry my Thermacell.

For hunting in the rain it has a built in "waterproof" cover. Quotes because I've never tested it but that's how it's advertised.

As far as chest packs go I have an Alaskan Guide Creations Ravus that would be a good start to a chest rig. You might look to the T&K Hunting chest rig also it looks pretty cool.

I've been vest free for 3 seasons now.  I've tried different chest packs and what I've learned is those are as personal as vest.  As with vest, none are perfect but the concept has me hooked.  My go to is a modified Alaskan Guide Denali.

I have the Alaskan Guide Denali with a summit pack, water bladder and two range finder pockets.

Range finder pockets will fit a 3" pot call.
