Finally caved in and ordered myself a trumpet yelper from Misfire Calls!  I ordered the full acrylic version he makes and i'm excited to learn how to use it.  Any of y'all have some helpful tips/experiences with trumpets for a newbie to this type of call?

Thanks,
Yard Bird

Yes, take your time and practice / practice / practice

They are deadly instruments and remember they resonate sound a long way ... Most of the time soft calling is better than loud Calling on one ... You will understand as you learn to play it more ...

You will love it. If you have never used any type of suction call before prepare for a little frustration at first.

Misfire trumpets play very easy, but there is going to be a learning curve.

Stick with it and I promise it will soon become one of your "go to" calls

Congratulations on your new trumpet...

If you have another hunter  close by, that uses a trumpet, ask for his guidance...

Watch the instructional video's on Youtube..

Learn to draw air thru the call, then learn to control the air drawn.

Do Not draw like your sucking a golf ball thru a 25ft. garden hose.

Draw the air like it's a very hot cup of coffee thru a mixed drink straw..

Be patient,  practice daily,
Put the call down, when you get frustrated..

Good luck...

Read the first thread in the trumpet call section, It has some great info. Watch several videos.. Farmer, Del Crow, Stowe, Peters, and even Mr. Lee himself. You picked a good one, and stick with it. Takes a lot of practice, but well worth the effort. Most people try to pull too much air, only takes a little... good luck.

Also helps to record yourself from 20-30 yards away, gives great feedback.

Agree, this is the same advice boatpaddle gave me 20 years ago. Helps to send the sound file of yourself to another turkey hunter for a independent peer review of your technique.

Excellent advice.
A quality paddle caller will most run itself.  It just needs someone to carry it around the woods. Yoder409

Over time...they come to learn how little air a good yelper actually requires. ChesterCopperpot

Sit down wrong, and you're beat. Jim Spencer                          Don't go this year where Youtubers went last year.

Lee's YouTube instructions are in my opinion the best out there. Sure helped me get on the right path.

Much appreciated advice y'all, thank you!  Once I get my hands on it I will be sure to check back in here with progress updates!

You made a great choice for your 1st trumpet, Lee made my 1st and it's a nice one.  Practice 10 min a day and master one note at a time.
Be careful because once you get decent with it you will go down the rabbit hole of wanting more, don't ask how I know🤦🏼♂️
