They're still messing with us. Like you say Jimbo,.. Close but no CeeeeeeeeeGar! There will be no reports for about 5 days or so. Off to NY then Pa. Good luck to all in the upcoming hunts.

Good luck Trackey, safe travels and happy hunting, hope you're not headed into SE PA, more fires.

Well, another missed opportunity.... BUT, I don't mind at all. I'm at my grandson's 3rd birthday party. I just love that little guy!! :z-flirtysmile3:
Of course it rained last night, and its been drizzling all day. Normally I would have put on rain gear and hunted over a decoy spread on a field on the cattle ranch. But family comes first.
Good luck to anyone hunting today.

No go tday the gobblers were very silent in I didnt hear 1 gobble saw 3 hens and I just got done doing a lil clucking and purring and Mr.Fox shows up that was pretty cool. Was raining when I entered the woods and it was raining when I left the woods. Back at it Monday with more rain in the forecast. :firefighter:

I'm back and birdless.
I just cant seal the deal. I'm changing my handle to Johnny Snake bite. ;D  I'm still after them and so is Jr.  Weather is getting a little screwy. Taking a day off tomorrow, I'm hoping for Wednesday. More to follow.

Congrats to all that scored. WTG!

I had a really nice hunt on a Pa bird yesterday. After a morning of heavy fog but great gobbling, I was unable to get in the game with any of the birds.  I jumped to a new spot.  About 1040 I heard a distant gobble.  I cut the distance and set up and was met with silence.  I thought maybe I had busted him trying to reposition, but called again, and got and got an immediate response, but higher on the ridge.  Okay, back in the game.  After a quick change setup, they were close.  I called him in with a smaller longbeard and two jakes and dropped him at about 45 yards.  A nice 2 year old but not an upgrade.

What a day today. Every thing was wrong out of the gate. We had a late start, then our vehicle got stuck on a dirt mound going into this area we seldom hunt. We were skeptical about hunting this piece. The scouting missions prior to the season weren't all that great. Towards the end we saw a couple of Tom's that were alone. Which was really the reason gave it a go.

Walking in the birds had to be on the ground. They were gobbling good. Real good. They were only about a mile away. We were thinking we ain't even in the game today.

So Jr. puts out a yelp. They answer. But.. do you know when they are so far away you don't know if they're really answering your call?

He does it again and it seems like they want to play. They cut the gap definitely. But FAR... Now we are thinking, maybe.. possibly.. could be. They cut the gap again. There coming, guessing 150y out. We go to a leaf scratch, soft clucks purrs and feeding calls. GrrrrrrrObbbbleObbbbbleObbbble! We clam up, Guns up. We see him cutting through @75.. @50.... @40... Jams on the breaks. Looking for Juicy Lucy. He don't like the area after his brief survey. Cluck.. Cluck and walks off in the direction he came from. Jr. didn't have a good lane to shoot and held off.

We attempt to call him back after he walks off a good bit. He sounds off with 3 or 4 other birds. We let them have it and crank em up good. They don't budge. I crank on the gobbler pot and the woods goes wild! Birds in all directions are goin off. Mind you this area was scouted and we weren't impressed, I guess they stocked some over the Mother's Day weekend.
:funnyturkey:

We dial it back a wee bit as it sounds like some may commit.

Two Tom's break off and start working there way in. Straight in, they start looking for Lucy again and don't see her. They start to skirt. But it's too late.
Jr. was locked into the opening the first bird came through.
Boom time!
What a great hunt.
