The biggest mistake they did was allowing baiting deer and the length of the season then the trappers got hit with new regulations and less interest to go, I'm sorry but no good winters or light rain springs are going to help until you change the system. It's not going to fix its self by natures way, that's a bridge we cross long ago. Get rid of the EPA first off they have no business running a wildlife agency. Get new regulations get back to leg hold traps and stop the yellow brick road buffet and the predators will be in check. I'm done  ranting on this subject its fallen on deaf ears for way too long.

Amen brother!!

I think its stupid for states that take away fall seasons why not just make it gobbler only fall season. Hunters could still get out to hunt atleast.

Florida has a gobbler only fall season (private land and very limited on a few quota bow hunts on some WMAs) and it appears few partake.  Even though the original turkey seasons were fall most seem to like to save them for spring.  You are witnessing knee jerk reactions at it's finest.  Going to see much more of this I'm afraid.  There a lot of jerky knees out there.

:deadhorse: Joey 46 how many legal birds are you aloud to killin in Flo Rida 3?? Come up to South  Jersey and kill as many as you'd like if you buy the permits otc. If folks think there is no need for change then you are the ones that will be the first to complain there is no turkey in your state.

See post #3.  Any system that allows some to take 15 -20 per year is flawed.  Restricting a fall hen harvest isn't going to help that situation much.
BTW - Florida is two in spring and two in fall (gobblers only).  Quota hunts are now the norm for much public land.

Joey and your state just changed its resident vs nonresident fees and regulations vs private and public land hunting so is that knee jerking or just a money grab ? FLORDIA never had a legal tag in requirement until recently why?

Is it knee jerking or adjusting waaaaay to slow?
Pretty sure we'd agree too slow

A lot of Florida's recent changes are due to resident whining. The reporting system FINALLY is for harvest results and accountability. Now if they would stop the free license foolishness for resident old geezers they may improve the financial bottom line and get their fair share of PR funds . Florida does nothing knee jerk.  Knee Jerk to FWC is a ten year process.

Or here in VA..rifles need to be banned for turkey hunting altogether. Too many hens and gobblers taken on Thanksgiving or the day before with a .308 and the likes because it is legal those 2 days when our deer season is going in full swing. Talk about smart rules. And yes, for some reason rifles are legal here in the spring. I've scratched my head over this since I started turkey hunting as a teenager in the early 90's.
