First Turkey

We've tried hard for several years to get my daughter a turkey but we've never been able to make it happen for one reason or another. She took the last couple seasons off. This year she told me she wanted to try and wanted her brother to get the first chance. Yesterday morning Gunnar missed one, and this morning he wanted yo leave and 5 minutes later on my way back to the blind there they were at the decoys. The rain broke and he was sleepy and laid down to have a nap and I told Adalynn, come on, let's go try to get you one. We got to the farm at 12:20, the bottoms I figured the turkeys would be using were flooded so we called an audible and decided to go up the hill. We struck him at 12:40 on top of the ridge about 300 yards away and by the time we made it 75 yards to find a way across the creek, he gobbled on his own 6 or 7 times and had came down the hill and gobbled at maybe 60 yards. I sat in down in a mud puddle and sat her in my lap and gave a cluck, he triple gobbled at maybe 40 yards. We couldn't see him and all of a sudden he appeared from behind a rose bush at 30 yards. He nailed us and putted twice about to head off and I told her if she can see him to kill him and did she ever, he didn't even flop. She had him by the feet at 12:50. Gobbled the whole way to the gun. My first born finally gets the disease and why I do this.  A turkey hunter is born!.
