I know what you mean, I love the Ol Tom/ Drake stuff but it is shiny. Yesterday I was at Academy and saw a turkey vest that, in my opinion, was about as close to the perfect layout that you can ask for. I walk over and it's only 60$ another awesome point. Then I start handling it and it sounds like you took two Walmart bags, filled them with tin foil, and started kneading them in your hands. It was made out of 100% polyester and the inside material was the same stuff they used to put in game bags on a vest. So it stayed there.

A few years ago, a friend gave me a vest that fit your description perfectly. It had a great camo pattern and had the right pockets in the right places without going overboard with them...and was really light-weight. Just what I wanted...until I put it on and started moving around in it. Whatever the material was (some sort of nylon/polyester, I think), it was so noisy that I have never been able to bring myself to wear it hunting. Too bad, because it is the perfect vest otherwise for the type of hunting I do.

My favorite takeaway from this whole thread is "cotton kills turkeys" LOL
Thanks for that :TooFunny:

Reviving this thread with an update
If anyone is lookin for old school fabric with new school patterns, I've found some good twill at Hotshot Gear. It's affordable, in Veil Camo patterns, and I'm happy with it.
Also was recommended by some airsoft dudes to check out Phantomleaf camo from Miltec.  I ordered a boonie hat to try it out, we shall see.
