Well, got a horrible text from a hunting buddy. Asked if I had scouted the spot where I shot the white one last year. Said I better go in during the light hours. The owner posted it recently. Sure enough it was marked purple at all accesses. Read your Maine regulation books if you dont know what that means. I contacted him and he said it wasn't hunters, but ATV riders tearing it up. I asked if I could get written permission and he said that he was tired of chasing them and that he was posting all his property, over 2k acres, so he wont have to worry about it. He is fencing off sections and letting his livstock into different sections so no access. People just don't get it. I have shot dozens of birds off his property with no issues but I can't overcome the mass stupidity of people nowadays. Really sad that we can't respect each other anymore.  :OGturkeyhead:  Z

Wow! Sorry to hear that Z. Maybe you can work something out with him. Keep us posted. It's a shame that a few people have to ruin things for others.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, tired, beat, thoroughly used up and totally worn out from chasing turkeys and loudly proclaiming; "WOW -- What a Ride!"

Wow Z, that's bad news. Your right on, people do not respect privileges and others property. I'll bet if you let it die down and approach the owner again, you might get access again. Hope you do!

Sorry to hear that, Z. Sadly, that's a normal occurrence anymore. I fear that the Northeast is going to become a sea of posted land in the near future due to the actions of idiots. Entitlement sucks.

Sorry for your loss Z!  ENTITLEMENT is the word I use for this behavior.  Many people, in today's society, think, "What's yours is mine and What's mine is mine".  They TRULY believe, they are doing NOTHING wrong.  I hunt some leased land with heavy duty cemented gates and we get ATV riders that drive around the gates, people throw ALL kinds of trash at the gates and even try to pull them out of the ground. Happy, nailed it ENTITLED LAW BREAKERS!

It happens everywhere. I have lost at least 1,000 acres of hunting land in the last 10 years, for various reasons, but all because of other people. The ATVs are a tough problem. Around here the sheriff will not do anything unless you do the hard work and catch and hold them or get absolute proof, then it's a cheap ticket. In Kentucky the NF service had serious issues a few years ago and finally got aggressive. They found some judges to support them and started dropping the hammer. They purchased their officers high end ATVs and literally ran the offenders down. If they caught you your ATV was confiscated. The ATV traffic on Daniel BOone NF declined drastically. I can not verify this absolutely, but a forest service officer told me this and I have witnessed the old trails are grown over with vegetation. We battle them on our properties and have been fairly successful, but it's tough. Sorry to hear they messed you up. As a landowner I would never kick a responsible person off. They are helping you police your property, what the offenders love most is vacancy from the landowner or his agents. I have convinced a few landowners that they get less trespassing with a few trustworthy people on their land watching. The offenders know if a piece of land is watched.

I am going back with some cupcakes and a cheesecake in a couple weeks to try my luck again. Either way he gets a sweet tooth, lol. I think it is just an accumulation of getting crapped on. It is his land and I appreciate the access. I will sniff out the bad element if need be. I am an old teddy bear now, but the grizzly is still in there hibernatng. I don't ever want him to awaken. But you never know.  :funnyturkey: Z

I know that it's not common in the NE, but can you lease the property and have sole rights to hunt it?

What you are describing is almost unheard of in the southeast, no one gives free reign to their land anymore.

The "watching our for trespassers/poachers" argument is a good one, that helped us convince the company that I work for to allow us to hunt the land where I work

Maybe you can help him with a few trail cams to try and identify the culprits that are Trespassing.  You and him can't be there 24/7 but a TRAIL CAM, well hidden, sure can.
