shot several 2 3/4" light loads thru this choke checking POA/POI in two different shotguns. backed up to 40yds and tried a 3" LBXR #6 in my Mossberg 500 Bantom and this is the results. thank goodness it didn't damage the shotgun. I contacted Truglo and they offered me a 30% discount on any other item because that choke is no longer available, go figure. anyway I explained I would never screw another one of their chokes in another gun PERIOD. after a mildly heated conversation they offered a full credit on whatever I choose.

Glad your gun is fine which is a miracle. I have never seen anything like that. I have an old TruGlo that I don't use any more but I did use it for years. It will be going in the trash.

Gobble!

Any chance the choke got loose after the first few shots and wasn't screwed all the way in?

No Sir. that is the one thing I am constantly aware of. for what it's worth, I've shot several truglo chokes over the years along with mutable other brands out of MANY different shotguns and have never had an issue. this was a first for sure and I'm truly hoping it is the last. things could have went a whole lot worse.

Very!
That's a dangerous situation for sure.
I'm glad your are ok. This definitely makes me feel un easy. I'm usually running a brush down the barrel keeping it clean and checking the tightness of my choke in between my shots.
Respectfully.. I think I'd go a different route with TG.

Looks like it wasn't seated.  Anyway that's crazy.
Nothing like seeing a kids eyes light up upon hearing that first gobble.

If a person walked away from a catastrophic failure,  walking away with all fingers and not being blinded for life is plenty good

My father had a double barrel shotgun blow up in his hands ..they had to cut his university class ring off his finger to save it - factory ammo

If you walked away without the barrel blown ...even better

I have seen several chokes in person and on here that exploded-there is one particular design SEVERAL TIMES ...tru glow was not the brand -

Several factors can contribute to a choke failing like that , one is the inside  skirt diameter is tighter than the bore ,  over pressure load etc...

Man that's weird . The head banger is a fantastic choke ... I didn't even know they quit making it . Glad your barrel is ok and you to for that matter

Too much pressure. That ammo with the shot lok resin causes more pressure. Reminds me of a sabot slugs coming thru the choke

Ive seen it swell chokes, seize chokes to the point the threads are trashed during the removal process.

Some chokes MAY take that pressure better than others but some definitely can't hold that pressure.

Got a choke just like that one. Except Tru choke and my buddy was shooting TSS!!! Slight bulge in my head barrel, it's a Over/under.  It's like it turned inside out!!!!
