I think it may finally be warming up here. It was 9 degrees this morning and 16 right now. Possible 30 this week. The extended cold has done some damage already as my hunting buddy ,who is not a turkey hunter, has found a couple dead hens near roost trees. Not a heart warming story. Just praying for my birdies. Hope Y'all are doing well. Z

We dropped down in the teens several times here in TN but fortunately not a lot of snow.  Just another day for you guys but cold for us.  Like you, hoping everyone's birds faired well.

Been extremely cold here in North Florida, with snow in parts of Florida for the first time since 1989.

We are okay in Osceola land. High today is 76.  Always glad to see the threads from what I consider the "doom and gloom" forum.  It is winter and it is January. It is supposed to be cold. Good luck to all this season.

Counting the days, I'll be down in less than 4 weeks... everyone else around here is excited about ice fishing.

Out riding and checking the fields this morning in Tennessee and saw 9 gobblers together in one field ....

Been pretty cold in our area for the last few weathers

Had 6" of snow a week ago.  The last of it is melting today.  IN NORTH FLORIDA.  Would have been a state record, all time, except they had 9" in Milton a couple hours to our west. Previous record in Florida was 4" - ever.  Been cold too.

Ugly weather all around. Turkeys are tough.

Been cold, but very little snow allows them to get food. Hopefully they fair well....

What about bird flu? Have you heard of any reports in your area? Your friend should report those dead turkeys he found for testing. It's in New England, to what extent it affects wild turkey populations idk.

Just saw where a Snow goose found in Phila. was infected. They also had a whole flock of geese with it in PA.

Good idea, I will follow up. Not uncommon to find a few frozen up here during a cold spell, but you never know. Thanks for the heads up. Z

That 9" was a steady number.  Many areas here in milton was over 12"   pretty awesome to see that much snow in a short time.  Been many years since I had to shovel it.  Never thought I'd do it in Florida though.  Turkeys at our private land were healthy and active all weekend.  Biggest surprise is seeing 5 Jake's hanging with a big gobbler.  That's because our property used to have a flock of 17 hens and each spring 1 or 2 gobblers would move in.  Only kill 1 gobbler every other season on this land.  Last season I messed that up.  Didn't see any poults in the late spring or summer.  But apparently these guys came from someplace. Also will not hunt a bird until last week of the season for myself.  I let them do as much breeding as they can.
