Any idea what folks use to get this look? What makes it so smooth and shiny?

I don't build wing bones, but maybe Epoxy?

Probably JB Weld and thread wrapping topped by clear epoxy.

It definitely looks like wrapping on the sides under the epoxy. The middle section might be some type of glitter material or paint mixed with the clear epoxy.

Ches.

Not sure but if I wanted that look, I would get two part putty epoxy, use water on fingers to smooth out for wet smooth look. After dry use black paint on epoxy, then wrap with thread, then cover with clear epoxy or clear spray paint. I use build mine up with black thread then clear epoxy it.
