Hand carved Trumpet

Wanted to try making a trumpet after the season last spring with hand tools without using a lathe.

Used a piece of hickory I set aside a couple years ago.
the only power tools were a chainsaw to drop the tree and cut into log length, and an electric hand drill for the internals. also an electric woodburning unit.

used an ax to split it down, a hatchet to rough shape, a farrier knife and a mora belt knife to carve, then several files for the final shaping.

used the knives as scrapers instead of sandpaper, then the handle of the farrier knife and a piece of bone to burnish it.

Made the lanyard from laces cut from a deerhide and braided in a 3 strand braid. Did a little bit of wood burning on the lanyard slide and the trumpet.

Followed Davis's measurements for the internals from his book, but modified them for a little bit higher pitched call than his would of been.

came out sounding good and draws air very easy, mouthpiece is a henbone.

sir-diealot was nice enough to post some pics for me, thank you Sir.

Here you go my friend, you did a wonderful job, wish I could hear a sound file of it. Something to be proud of for sure.

Very nice! Cool little project and it came out great. Know you got an ear for it, betting it sounds great.
