I`m very fortunate to be tagged out in NY with taking 2 dominate birds. It`s probably been 20 years since i have cut spurs and have a lot of legs in freezer. For those who save your spurs what have you found to be the easiest way to cut them? I don`t own a band saw. Would a dremmel work well with the cutting blades? I believe i use to use a scroll saw or hacksaw. Tips welcome. Good hunting guys, stay safe.
I use a dremmel tool w/cutting blades, they break easy (the blades) so just go slow-works fine
I used to use a hack saw but now I use my 12v milwaukee hackzall. So easy
Battery powered Sawzall.

X2 This works the best and they are not hard to hold using dremel...
I just use a regular hacksaw. I can have them cut off by the time I dig out the Dremel and get the cutting blade on it.
Limb loppers
Hack saw

Chainsaw, I kill some big ones.
For the smaller ones I just use a hacksaw.
Thanks for the replies guys. Just got done making feather book markers for my wife and daughter in law. The ladies love them.

Hacksaw is all I've ever needed but I cut them as I kill them.

Book marker looks nice, that is what I have been doing with a feather from my bird last year.
Thank you, I hope you get many turkeys!
Hacksaw is all that is needed.
Freeze them, then hack saw or coping saw...
Reciprocal saw makes quick work of it.
I use a hacksaw to cut, 40% volume peroxide and whitening then I shape the bone after. I also have a method to polishing spurs.

I use the clear nail polish on my beaks for skulls, I do wear my "Spur Chain" at some banquets, seminars and events I do. The nail polish seems to "wear" down on these. I'm sure for a set on display they would keep the shine.

I use a hacksaw. Works fine for me.
Sent from deep in the woods where the critters roam.
Hey MK-Really nice work, thanks for sharing!
Hacksaw with a vise
Do not use loppers! My buddy gave me a set if spurs to clean up for him and he broke one half of the bone off using loppers. Terrible idea!
Hacksaw IN the vise. I clamp the frame of the hacksaw with it blade side up in a vise. Then I hold either side of the leg and draw it towards me on the blade to slowly cut the spur section loose. Takes a couple minutes with controlled even pulls. This way you don't risk the bone breaking.
Hacksaw leaving 1/16 on each side of the spur. A sharp blade to cut the scale off. Boiled spur side up with the bone in the water for 5 min. Knock out marrow, scrape excess meat off then soak in peroxide just the bone, again spur side up for a few hours. Thread on rawhide in descending size.
