I'm starting to enjoy these threads, after all the response to my "deadliest call" and "favorite crystal" threads. Very interesting to see the various calls everybody prefers to use. So with that in mind, let's talk about a pot surface that doesn't get talked about a lot anymore. What's your favorite aluminum, best sound and easiest to run? I have two of them, a lightsout anodized aluminum and just received a Schaffer aluminum. The lightsout is a good one, and birds respond well to it. I'm still learning the Schaffer, it has a great sound but seems a little picky about striker angle. What's your favorite?

Darrin Dawkins or Lon Trice
Brad Roberts wormy persimmon alum over glass and Mark Cornelius walnut alum over glass ...
Glen Marrer maple is my favorite and a Hanks paduak, and Al Holberts silver fox and....I could keep going but, I ike ALUM. :turkey2:
I'm pretty proud of my own High Standard line but if I wasn't running my own I'd look at Lon Trice.
My Paul Platz cherry aluminum. Aluminum is my least favorite surface but I use it from time to time to give the birds something different. I have killed a few with it but out of all my pot call surfaces it is dead last in dead birds.
Woodhaven vision alluminum .....its incredible
Gooserbat High Standard Aluminum is absolutely deadly in the woods.

Only one I have ever had is my black anodize aluminum in white oak pot from Footballer, sounds pretty good to my ears anyway.
Just purchased an aluminum pot from Darrin Dawkins and can't wait to try it. A buddy recommended it.
I've got a "Game Over" aluminum from SS Calls that sounds great. It screams when you need it to.
Jim
Finally found a aluminum that I like. It is a Brad Roberts aluminum over glass in a Elm pot. It sounds very good and does not slip or stop playing as others have.
Really like the Silver Thunder from Al Holbert ( Enticer Calls ). Plays wet or dry, has a corian back that is just great for soft, subtle calling.
Mike Robare, I have a Halloran anodized and the Robare gives me the subtle sounds you sometimes need.
Mac walnut aluminum
I don't have an absolute favorite. The 3 I like best are: Enticer silver thunder Corian pot, Paul Hicks stoned aluminum paduak pot and lights out canary wood/black anodized and yellow heart/green anodized.
Mac walnut and Lon Trice
Two favorites, Schaefer Atomic 13 and believe it or not, Lohman Thunderdome Aluminum with a Cody Carbon Striker. Weird combo. But really works...Good luck....
Lonzo anodized aluminum in acrylic
I'm surprised that not a single person has mention the Dawkins stoned aluminum in the plastic pot. That call used to be wildly popular on this board. I've never tried one myself.

Schafer atomic 13, Mac, Dustin Jones or Dawkins in the wooden pot. Awesome calls.

All awesome pots mentioned, but in my vest its an old Dick Kirby's Quaker Boy aluminator in a black plastic pot. Picked it up years ago in a clearance bin for $5. Super easy to control and great tone. Only production call I carry, and often strikes a gobble on those quiet days.
I've had a few over the years. My favorite is a Matt Van Cise High Class Calls anodized...not sure of the wood. Bought it used, and it's fantastic! A very close second is Lights Out anodized in canary wood. Once used the bottom of a coke can that I found in the woods...would work in a pinch, but not the best sound quality.
My favorite is a sleeper call, Medina Calls Wind Talker...
Also like Light's Out in alum...
Gooserbat's High Standard is one of the best aluminum calls I've ever ran
Mine is a LightsOut.
Jimmy Schaffer aluminum over aluminum in a sapele pot
My favorite aluminum is a toss up between a Dawkins in the plastic pot and Travis Wyatts green aluminum in a cherry pot.
Everybody that's looking at this thread who is in the market for an aluminum pot: Are you confused enough yet? Here's a different hint: the striker makes as much difference in the sound of many pot calls as the call itself does. If you are not matching your pot calls to the "right" striker, you need to start doing that.

Yes, I've found this out when I started expanding the number of custom strikers. With more calls and strikers I've actually started keeping notes as to what strikers match up with what pots and the sounds I am getting. Made it more fun too!
My favorite is the enticer silver thunder extreme.
I really like the Schaeffer Atomic 13. Very easy to play and maintain.
I don't think they make it anymore but I have a Knight and Hale silver hammer that I have had for years and like. Killed several gobblers with it.
I have a Schaefer Atomic 13 and an Lonzo anodized aluminum that are both pretty nice.
Generally I don't like aluminum because of the consistency issue. They tend to start slipping when they get damp and early morning temps. can cause that same problem. This seems to be especially true with the anodized and the stoned. You can mitigate that somewhat by wetting the tip of your striker and chalking it.
All of that said, I do like a Jimmy Schaffer blasted aluminum over aluminum (black surface) using the chalked striker. Haven't had any issues with that call.
The other thing with aluminum is, they need to be cleaned regularly with 91% alcohol (87% has oil in it and encourages slipping).
I do love the sound of a good one and turkeys respond well to them.

May sound crazy but kill them public land birds with my ridge rocker aluminum.
My favorite two are an Enticer Extreme Silver Thunder Aluminum, and the Enticer Silver Fox both are 'meat' calls. :z-twocents:
