We only been working half days at work this week so I been doing alot of hunting, no birds yet but I have found one. I drive by a place that I did not have permission to hunt (until today) and every day no matter what time I drove by, there was a big longbeard not 100 yards off the road, sometimes strutting sometimes not. Drove by today and there he was lonesome, full strut and a big que ball sticking up there. I decided I had enough turned around and drove to the landowners house and talked to him and got permission. I eased around to a good watching point and just watched him through the binos for an hour and a half. Not gonna worry with roosting him tongiht as I know where his strut zone is and me and dad will be there well early in the morning waiting on him to slip up and show off. Dad has never killed a bird, which is the reason I decided to not go after him today and just watch so hopefully dad will jelly that head for him tommorrow. Lords willing well be eating high on the hog tommorrow for luch. :z-guntootsmiley:
Awesome, good luck Trevor2.
I almost went after him anyways bc this ol boy has a rope on him but dad killing his first is worth more to me than killing what would surely be my biggest bird.

Good move Trevor. I have killed many turkeys on my own and love it, but it gives me just as much joy to put my son or father on one. I had a beer with my father for the first time 17 years ago when he came to visit here in SD and he shot his first spring turkey. I never knew he would drink a beer. After the kill I said "if you were a drinkin man I'd buy you a beer to celebrate" he simply said "I could drink one." I wouldn't trade that day for any in the world. Good luck and mount the tail fan for him when he kills that big boy.

Wanna see some good pics, good luck!
Well fellars, this morning was a bust. Got there well early enough and set our blind up and got settled. I had not got a chance to see if this bird is in this same spot in the mornings. But knowing this is his strut zone I figured he would be there shortly after flydown. Wrong! We were prepared for an all day sit if needed but these 20 + mph winds set in and dad opted to get out. Pretty bad storms are heading this way, and as he wants to kill a turkey, deer are his passion more than anything, so he is pleading that I go back after him this evening bc " he aint getting out and chasing no dang turkey in the rain" lol We did hear two birds gobble on the roost bt only few times then around 8 the wind picked up and you couldnt have heard him if in was above you. I know this bird wil be in the field here very shortly in next few hours, so maybe I can convince him to get after em.

Setting up on a field that is a known strut zone while there is a light rain can be extremely productive! Your dad is giving up a golden opportunity in my opinion.
thats what i told him, and the storms are not comin in till tonight just high winds and drizzling rain till then, he wont go and will not shut up about me gooing back out after this ol boy so after I eat a bite and grabe the rainsuit im outta here

So much for thinking lol I talked dad into going in the rain yesterday evening but it was all for naut. We seen him already in the field and tried to slip in but he seen us and bumped. Spent the rest of the evening in another spot trying to get 4 jakes to commit our way, but they decided to feed off with the hens. Thats hunting for ya.
Get back out there and get after him. Good Luck.
