Hey guys I know I've been MIA for a while but I'm back and have a question for you.
A friend who is a whiz with a lathe wants to turn some strikers.
What is your preferred wood for strikers on a glass pot?
Any tips from you call makers on turning/finishing strikers would be greatly appreciated!
Barry
My personal favorite is yellowheart. I also like rosewood, persimmon, and of course dymondwood.
I second the dymondwood but tulipwood n snake wood are two of my favorites

X2 strikers are like collecting calls... Don't forget red cedar, hickory and osage orange
+ Purple Heart
I do like diamond wood, but always go back to hickory straight tip.
My preferred striker wood for glass or crystal, purpleheart.
Dogwood, persimmon, Osage, blackjack, Hickory,
Persimmon and Black Locust are my two favorite at the moment. I lost an old Lonnie Sneed hickory with a walnut top this year out west. It was a good un.
got to go with teak
Hickory, black locust, bloodwood and rosewood. Those are my current favorites on glass. Ask again closer to April, it may be different........

1. Dymond wood
2. Macassar ebony
3. snakewood
4. persimmon
Those are my favorit in that order for glass.
I could go in the woods with just yellowheart, purpleheart and macasar ebony these get about 90% of playing time in the woods

Will second this choice as well. Have to remember, that each call sounds different with each type of wood striker you use. You will find that some sound very high pitched vs others. What sounds awesome to my ears might not to yours. Personal choice all the way here.
Black locust and tulipwood. If it won't run with one of those, I'm probably not carrying it. Not real certain why I've got 9 strikers in the vest (probably because there's that many sleeves in there) but those are the two I reach for the most.
Zebrawood
Dymondwood
Black Locust
Purpleheart
eastern cedar
Snakewood
tulipwood
Osage
And of course dymondwood
