So what's the skinny on the 20ga Longbeard XR loads? Is there such a load? Do they have the same title but for 20ga? Or, as I've read on a coupe sites, are they the Rooster loads?
Little help.... :icon_thumright:
I think this thread from Clark will help answer all your questions.

When ever the weather allows, I'll go to the range and try the new 20 gauge WLB shells. I have them with #5 and #6 shot.
I should have a release date on those shells soon but I suspect just after SHOT or at the NWTF Convention in February.
When I get a date, I'll post it on OG.
Thanks,
Clark
Natchez shooting supply has them listed in their catalog I got a couple of weeks ago.

Dang! I might have to call and sweet talk em tomorrow into sending me a box....
Good chance they are outta stock yet....................
I've done a LOT of business with Natchez............... but they tick me off............. Bet the same sale flyer lists Winchester brand .375 Winchester brass on sale. They haven't had any (nobody has) in stock for YEARS. But every flyer lists it as being on sale.
Looking forward to trying it!!
I know alot of people are excited about these new longbeards for a 20 gauge, mybe they will be above 100 hits in the 10 at 40yds.
Longbeards or whatever, the 20 ain't a 40 yard gun. Go ahead, take the shot, but please tell us about the cripples along with the kills.

I would have to adjust that to say that totally depends on what is coming out of the barrel. I agree to a point . I don't want to shoot lead out of a 20 gauge at 40 yards. But I will with tungsten. And ill do it just as good as with a 10 or a 12.

X2. Would I want to with lead? Depends on pattern density. If you're getting 100-150 in the 10" with lead, doesn't matter if it's a 12 ga or 20 ga. Having said that, 40 yards with my 20 and federal HW 7's isn't an issue. 40 yards with TSS is, well, ummm.....I'm betting the guys that are using it in a 20 ga could chime in here and say a thing or two.
I run across a Video of field and stream shooting some 20 LB at the shot show.

Lead is lead no matter what they wrap around it. It will kill just fine at 40 with 5s as long as you take smart shots. Personally, i went to HTL and never plan to go back if I can help it. I enjoy savoring the moments after the shot and not having to jump up and run to make sure he is not going to shake it off after being stunned a few moments.
No matter what you shoot, know your limitations, regardless of advertising and what ole Joe blow says, and you will kill turkeys.

Lead shot is lead shot whether it comes out of a 20 or a 12 or a 410 for that matter,it has killed turkeys probably longer than all of us have been alive.
I can guarantee you that my tss loads in my m2 benelli 20ga. Is a 40 yard gun easily. I would put it up against any factory 12ga load out there. The #9 tss can take birds out to distances that is unbelievable. I dont shoot any bird over 40 purposely, but i know of some kills with a 20ga tss load that will make many people on here cringe.

It amazes me how people just make a statement about things they really have no knowledge of. Maybe if they did a little research , they could learn something.

2o gauge longbeard patterns look pretty good at 40 yds 169 in the 10 ain't too shabby.
I know of a turkey being killed at 108 yds with tss 8s in a 20ga. was not the turkey he was shooting at but he killed it none the less.

i think there's something wrong with your keyboard. You tried to type "40 yards" and it accidentally keyed "108 yards". I'd get that thing checked out before you have to type up something more important than a couple posts on a turkey hunting forum. :TooFunny:

I have to respectfully disagree on this.
I have never shot lead at 40, but faithfully use Federal Heviweight 3-1.5-7's out of my 20 ga.
I hammered a bird last year at 40, and I have never seen a bird drop like he did. Those Federals are the real deal!
He never even kicked.
20 gauge and federal HW 7's work more than fine at 40 .
Never tried lead in a 20 past 30 yards much. So really can't comment there.
Under 30 yards is more fun with any gun !
Believe I will stick with HW 7's though , just in case.
Probably pattern some longbeard 20 gauge just for fun.
