I top seeded one of my food plots last week and it didn't take long for the turkeys to find the seed. Check out this caramel wing colored bird on the right. Wondering how common this is in wild birds? Quite a contrast between him and the more "normal" colored bird on the left. Must be a genetic color variation? Thought it was cool enough to share.
Awesome bird; it appears he doesn't have spurs, as well.
That is cool. Clearly a gobbler by looking at his head, but no Spurs.
Agree with both of the above posts. Cool looking bird
Long shot but maybe he has a domestic gene in the bloodline somewhere
he would be a neat one to cape and mount showing off those wings, no spurs would make me sad though :funnyturkey:
Cool looking bird! Spurs or not, that'd be a unique trophy.
That's pretty cool looking

X2
Neat bird
Very Nice! good luck if you choose to hunt him.
Very pretty bird good luck with him!
Thanks for the responses. I figured somebody would chime in and say they've seen something like this before. Must be more unique than I first thought...
That's unique for sure...
Very unique bird. Odd about the Spurs though.

That looks to be an orange phase bird. Notice the tail is not normal coloration also which is typical of that color phase. I have killed two over the years but they are few and far inbetween. If you kill him I would bet you will find his back feathers are orange tipped and tiger striped in appearance. On mine both had light orange secondaries and the black on the primaries was more of a brown color. The fan has the black stripe but the secondary rump feathers lacked any black. Both of mine did have spurs. Now i have killed a 6 bearded bird with slick legs.
Cool pic!!
Nice pic. Thx for sharing.
Awesome looking bird. Hopefully you can bag him. If so make sure to post lots of pics.
I killed one just like that three years ago but he had spurs. I didn't think much about him just knew he was different from rest. I guess I should have done something with his feathers.
Pretty bird! Spurs or no spurs!

Never heard of an "orange" or "bronze" phase bird, very interesting. As for the domestic trait possibility... I don't know of anybody raising birds within a few miles over the last 10+ years, but possible I guess. The lack of spurs seems odd, but like others have said, I've shot birds with no spurs, tiny spurs, and broken spurs over the years but have never seen, let alone shot one with colors like these. Here's some more photos... thanks for all the comments.
People always throw domestic into every discussion about different color phases. Wild turkeys have color variations just as do all types of birds and mammals. Good luck and once he quits flopping post some pics ????
Very cool!
