At least I know where not to go, scouting public land a d the marker tape looks like confetti. Why so much tape? Not a rant its kinda funny, should have taken a picture. . But I understand and don't worry ill go around :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an what about wma on other states is it like this also? :you_rock:

Up here its the deer hunters that leave all the tape in the woods. Turkey hunters are a more solitary/secretive bunch.

Same here in NY. I just wish they'd take it all down after season.

Are guys claiming spots for the whole season with the tape, or just letting you know there is a hunter ahead of you in a spot? (I would have no issue with the latter).
If someone thought they could mark a spot off for the whole season on any public land I hunt, I would tell them to pound sand (after removing their tape)...
I did have a bird working me last season on a very small public spot right off the road. The bird was on a fast approach he suddenly stopped, and I thought I heard him approaching from uphill behind me (which would have been odd cause it was really steep)...
Suddenly someone yells "what are you doing?..." I knew it was over, so I walked up to meet the guy and explained I was turkey hunting... He was friendly and curious, but also clueless. I thought about taking tape to mark off that spot while I was hunting in the future, but that would only let other hunters know it was there (it is kinda' a secret little gem).
I've never seen it while turkey hunting but it is terrible during deer season. Guys tape off the beginning of a walking trail or closed road and write the date of their quota and number of hunters, like they expect you to just turn around and go elsewhere because they're hunting that WHOLE side of the property . And they do it for multiple stand locations so they have a backup plan. I tear down every piece I see. My pockets have been bulging after a day of scouting.
Happens on public land here as well. They mark their path to the stand and it loos like a crossword puzzle when you enter during deer season. In fact, I refuse to go back during rifle season ever again. BP season isn't so bad but never again for rifle. It's amazing to me someone hasn't been shot yet. There's just too many people on that small parcel of land. A deer doesn't really stand a chance of running the gauntlet there but then again, some guys do get lucky. I'd rather be alive than lucky. Been known to remove some tape over the years myself once the season is over. Someone was kind enough once to remove mine before season began. I thought it was a kind gesture as I didn't have to do it later.

I think a lot of it here is more to guide themselves and others in their party to their deer stands. I guess It's easier for them than actually learning the layout of the property. I know a few that do it so they can just tell their buddy's to follow the flags til they get to a certain point, then stand there for a drive. I've seen log roads that my 6 year old grandson could follow, marked every 50' to a tree stand too. And yes, I've come home with bulging pockets more than once. ;D

Years back I pulled a bunch of orange ones off pine trees that were spaced every 5 yrds or so. It was a short cut to the fire trail from the parking lot. (A straight walk N. of about 100 yrds.) A week later they were back.
