Title: Alps outdoorz grand slam vest
Post by: okslayrio on February 23, 2016, 04:52:37 PM
Does anyone have one? If so, how do you like it? I love my tat'r, but the grand slam looks a little more user friendly than the tat'r.

I bought a ALPS OutdoorZ Pursuit Bow Hunting Day Pack last fall. It is really well made, and it was cheaper then similar packs. Comfy. What made it stand out for me was how well organized all the pockets were. That is all I have for you. It is something! HOPE it helps!

Literally sitting here looking at it in the Macks catalog thinking about it.  I wonder if the cushion is attached by magnets (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160224/4ebef140886e379f04c4c7adbff67211.jpg)

I think I'm going buy it, I wonder if the seat is detachable? The call pockets look alot more accessible thaN on the tat'r.

I agree.  Well organized.  I like the flexibility of using the frame or just sitting up against the tree as normal.  Another good thing is a portion goes to support the NWTF!

I know first time in 6-7 years I have missed it!  Yeah I would have liked to put my hands on one at that price!

That just makes the purchase that much more justifiable. If I like it, great! If I don't, I can always sell it and at least I was able to help the turkeys! The camelback compatability sounds really awesome too. And the kickstand will come in super handy run n' gunning out here in Oklahoma, seeing as a good sitting tree is a luxury here.

From the pic it looks like the frame sits low like there's a main support bar going across the lower back, has anyone sat down with this thing to see

I'd certainly be  interested, sit still and comfortable is the biggest trade off with lightweight and portable.

The hydration feature would be great in TX where lots of walking and few trees to lean against.

No,  I got 3 of them.  One for me and after a quick couple of calls 2 buddies wanted one as well.

I just received mine and will be returning.  The design is a good start, but needs improvement.

Pros:  Layout of pockets is good.  Like the hydration pocket.

Cons: 1) One-size fit all is bad idea.  I'm 5'10" and 160 lbs.  I had to cinch the straps all the way down and it was still a little loose.  BUT when you do this you can NO longer use the water bottle pockets.  2) The seat magnets are pretty strong, but when I did the jump test, the seat would release and fall every time.  I don't the seat falling when I brush tree limbs and such.  3) Heavy. Even when I removed the frame it was still heavier than the Tatr II and III.  With the frame its really heavy.  4) The frame itself is curved/contoured and felt okay standing up.  But when I sat down it makes the vest ride way up.

The Cabelas Tatr's are better IMO. Now to decide on tatr II or III..

I have the II and love it. To me they have the best design on a seat. Pockets are lid out good. Other than just having to carry a water bottle which there is a spot for I really don't have any complaints about it at all.

Well I went ahead and ordered it. I like my tat'r II, but I'm just tired of the pocket configuration. If all else fails I'll go back to old faithful.

Well it came in today, I agree with lindllc that the magnets for the seat could be stronger, but other than that I really like it. I can't wait to try it out in the field!

I got my ol' tom in today...its sitting at my front door waiting on me to get home from work...or at least I hope it still is... ;D  What are your thoughts on the weight.  I picked up one of my 5# dumbbells and the stats say the vest is 6#

I don't think it's heavy at all. Even with the frame. If I could change anything about the design ideas make the seat cushion detachable. Some might say it's too heavy, but it beats hauling around a gobbler chair.
