Not talking about stretching the truth on your hunts you have experience but walking out of the woods and getting in your truck and someone pulls up and ask if you had any luck! I found out the hard way if you tell them the truth most likely the next time you go there you will see them parked in your spot. I am talking about mostly public land hunting but it has happen to me on private land also so hate to say it if anyone ask anymore i sure don't tell them the truth. A few years back i scouted a lot and was telling one of my buddies what i was hearing and found out he was using my info to find his turkeys >:( Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem but anymore its hush hush for me!!

My closest hunting buddies don't know exactly where I hunt turkeys. I'm sure not going to give any specific information to a stranger. If you find my truck I'm usually 2-3 miles from it. My wife drops me off and picks me up a lot of times and my buddies don't even know that.
I always tell the truth, when someone ask's me where I shot him , I say in the head.
i never see anything :TooFunny:
I learned the hard way hunting on our neighbors.Used to just tell it like it was and they always ended up in those spots. But it is their farm so I didnt say anything. From then on I always said I heard/saw birds way away from where i was wanting to be.Works like a charm.they usually go to those spots like bees to honey. They are really nice people, just not too much into scouting or lookin for birds on their own.It has backfired on me a time or two as they have killed birds before I did,but 80% it works out great for me to "lie" :angel9:
I tell people without a second thought. Nobody in their right mind would try to trespass where I hunt. The dude scares the beejeebies outta me even!

thats odd neither do I??? :TooFunny:
Turkeys, ... what turkeys? :-X
They say "Where did you shoot that?"
I say " The woods" and walk away
There is no value in giving away information.
I'll give whatever info I got. If you go and kill a turkey good for you and I'll pat you on your back and say good job. I don't need to lie to kill a turkey. JMO

Regardless of what happens on the hunt...." I didnt see anything but I think I MIGHT have heard a hen right at first light.... I cant be sure cause of how far off she sounded."

sounds like some of my replies
I don't tend to lie about what I heard mainly cuz the people I tell hunt other land. Also I don't scout usually so I pretty much go into the woods blind, I'm not really a wealth of knowledge anyways
I only have a couple of guys besides my FIL that I hunt with, and we hunt in their spots when we hunt. I would never tell anyone my FIL's spots, and never take anyone there. You never betray a trust.
As far as telling a stranger, I never really have run into that.
Since I hunt public land almost exclusively I run into folks on the dirt roads and at the check stations. I tell the road warriors "I seen a hen cross the road about a mile or so that way" and the check station gawkers get " 50 yards off the paved road". Sorry but I work too hard to find birds for me and my Dad to just give info to strangers.
I tell my friends what I hear/see. No prob w/that from me. If they want to go kill one, good luck. I'll take their pic w/him.
I hunt mostly private, so don't talk to strangers.
If someone ask I'll tell them where I was at and what happened on my hunt. I'm not gonna volunteer info. My philosophy has always been "you get out of it what you put in it".
I was taught to never give away info, thats just the way it is.................
I do like to ask people what they have seen or heard just to see the look on their face, and see what kind of lie they can come up with!
I've learned to be very cautious of what information I give out now days. I don't even like to tell anyone where I even hunt.
I won't lie, I just won't answer.
When another hunter starts pumping me for information about where I was and what did I hear, see, smell, etc. I simply change the subject, and sometimes rather abruptly. One of the basic lessons of turkey hunting is that you DO NOT ask a guy for pertinent information. Now, if he wants to blab about it on his own, fine, let him give you GPS coordinates if he thinks that makes him look better in your eyes.

the turkeys blab enough about where they are on ther own, no sence in me helping them out. I don't lie about where I killed one I just reply "top secret"
I'm pretty free with information, especially with friends. With strangers it depends on their attitude. I like to help people out, but if your a jerk there ain't no telling what I'm apt to tell you.
The property I hunt is private but the landowner will give anyone permission to hunt it. Most of the guys that hunt it have no clue what they are doing, they will usually wear orange while they are sitting, so there is no way I will tell them where the turkeys are. They generally hunt the same spot so we just stay out of each others way. I have no problem telling my friends that I hunt with where the turkeys are because I know they will do the same for me.
Didnt see any turkey ,, always say saw just few deer
As Tom Kelly's huntin buddy says " I haven't saw one"
Loose lips sink ships. Last year my buddy in Kansas locates a great Public place with some big Gobblers from a church member, where I planned on hunting. Of course he has to tell one other guy he knows, and I believe that family took 6 out of there, which left none I could find. ::) I don't even tell relatives much. All is fair in love, war, and Turkey hunting. However, I will take people with me to Turkey hunt, but if they spread the info out, it'll be the last time.

Jay, I'm exactly the same way. I won't tell anyone where I hunt, but I will gladly take them. While I've got them out there, I will take a few minutes to make a point of advising them to not violate the trust that I have placed in them in showing them the locations. I've had no problems since I started doing this.

I'm the same way. I will gladly take people out with me especially if they don't turkey hunt much. I had a buddy I took out a few years ago. The first time we went out we had no luck. He wentg out there during the week without me and ended up shooting a small jake. This was his second bird of the year. Needless to say I was pretty irate. I haven't gone out with him or talked to him much sense. The kicker is that last year he texted me to say that he drove by that spot scouting and saw a bunch of strutters. I had to make it clear to him that he wasn't welcome there. It's a trust thing I guess.
A very few close family members and 2 friends know where I hunt but these are people I can trust. Any co-workers I go with I go with them to their spots if they want me to call a bird in for them. I dont hunt their spots unless they ask me to. I dont believe in cutting in on someone but I learned a long time ago deer hunting that their are very very few people you can trust when it comes to hunting places.
Forgot to add. I do know where most of my co-workers hunt at that I dont hunt with. When I kill 1 and they ask where I killed it I always say where they hunt at. It drives them nuts! :TooFunny:
I always say no i didnt hear anything, or i will say maybe , thought i heard one.
Kevin
Anyone ever hear, you sure do kill some turkeys for a guy that never heres any .
My friend was told this by a guy in his club, I thought it was funny.
I'd would answer this question but I don't want to lie.
I plead the 5th.
Only luck I have is when they see me carrying one out or its in the back of my truck. Other than that, they ain't no birds here. Always across the river :TooFunny:
i always like to say. "nah man idk whats up with them turkeys this year. seems to not be as many, its looking to be a bad season."

I'll just give general areas but when I ask I remember everything they and I find them. BUT ONLY IF THEY"RE JERKS.
Where I am, the woods are so small, and dang birds are all over the fields.. its sort of hard to lie. There are so many roads leading in that you honestly cannot get away from people in most cases, and the land is about as flat as land gets.. sea level.
However, one morning I was getting ready to walk in when a guy pulled up, he actually had the nerve to ask me if I minded if he went in there and hunted with me, he even gave me a synopsis of where we could both set up and be safe all morning...
I said well, NO it would not be cool if you came in here with me, and said man I just came here cuz I was runnin late, I told him about three birds at a spot about 3 miles away, which I had never been into.. and I think it was just an old cutover....
he thanked me and went on his way....... see its not bad to be nice...... ;D
and of course I never hear anything either...
You are more likely to get one of my guns from me than honest information as to where I hunt. And I hunt about the worst spot known to man, or turkey for that matter. I just go for the solitude.
A good turkey hunting spot is like a good crappie top. Don't volunteer the info, but if you see me there a couple days in a row.....I ain't just waisting time. :goofball: I only share information to a close few.....but I also honor their areas no matter how tempting it may be to go after a bird. Unless of course they've had a week or so of time to try and close the deal. Then :smiley-char092:
