Im in the market for a pair of boots to mostly be worn during turkey season. I want a style of boot like a "muck" brand boot, easy to slip on and off. My problem is with this style boot is that I wear the inside heel of the boot out and after a short while this gets uncomfortable badly and there is just no way to do alot of walking in a boot like that. Any advice on how to deal with this problem, am I getting the wrong size? Not wearing the right socks? Any suggestions on boots to try? Thanks in advance :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an
Sounds like you're buying them too large for you.
I'd say you probably have the wrong size. I've been wearing Muck Boots for years. I actually can wear regular socks with then and have no trouble. They have been the best boots for me.
Get a good pair of ankle fit boots that fit your feet. I've had LaCrosse Alpha Burlys and Irish Setter. I'm currently in the Irish Setters and they did great last year. My brother in law has a pair of Cabela's rubber boots and he loves them, but they don't fit my feet for crap. Experiment, and don't forget your local shoe shops. That's where I got my Irish Setters at and they were cheaper than Cabelas. :anim_25:
I bought muck boots a few years back and got them a little big to fit extra socks.. theres the mistake because when not wearing lots of socks like a warm spring morning my heel has too much room and wore the back out as well. Now it rubs
Ive been wear lace ups for deer but its time for a new pair of turkey boots. Ive been looking at the Muck excursion hiker and Lacrosse alpha SSTs for a lower lighter boot. the knee highs can get so hot and clunky on a low warm spring bird hunt. I will definently get them propper sized for light socks and.

whatever you do don't buy the red head boots from bass pro i have on a pair i bought in aug. and the sole is comeing away at the toe they fit and wear good but the quality sucks
Here ya go. Best deal I've found on muck boots. The most comfortable pull on style boot I have ever worn and I've gone through them all.

Try wearing a liner sock inside of a wool boot sock. I know it sounds hot, but the liner wicks the sweat away, and you really don't notice the heat. My Alpha Burly's right on down to my snake boots feel just like a good pair of Nike's or New Balance's with this combo.
I like the Muck Woody Max. These are the most comfortable boots I have owned.
For turkey hunting I love the LaCrosse Grange uninsulated. They aren't snake boots though.
Mucks are the only thing I will wear.
I just got a pair of Rocky silent stalkers for turkey season that should be nice on long hikes and warm days.. Could use a new pair of mucks too for those wet days but i can get one more season out of the old ones probably
I am in the market for a new pair of boots for my South Dakota Trip in April I was looking at the Danner Pronghorns, they look like they would be ideal. Anyone have any expierience with them? They have good reviews on the catlog web sites.

:agreed:
I just picked up a pair of wolverine king caribou iii. Weigh only 2.6lbs!! Might be a little warm with 800 insulate but goretex and super light!
I'm a big fan of the Alpha Burly Boots buut my God....they have gotten outrageous in price! I kill them in 2-3 seasons too...they are getting up near the price of good leather boots that I can get double to triple the life out of....just sayin! ::)

I was a lacrosse fanatic for a long time. Then they quit making the boot I liked can't remember the name. The reason I can't remember is because I tried lots of different boots last year until I broke down and bought some Danner Pronghorns. All I can say is wow. They have erased all other boots from my memory.
Now, I still have some lacrosse rubber boots, but my feet sweat in them during turkey season. They are fine for bow hunting deer, but not when I need to be mobile.
Safe and Happy Hunting!

Irish Setter
If want tall boots, love my BPS snake boots (zip up)!!!!
I purchased the new Danner Jackal snake boots last month. Cant wait to put some miles on them. They feel like a tennis shoe on your feet.
Muck boots and regular socks ... comfortable hunting for sure.
Bought some of the new Under Armor rubber boots and used them all deer season down here in north Bama and i have to say they are some of the most comfortable boots I own. They are uninsulated so they should be perfect for turkey hunting, they also have a nice tight ankle fit that helped me a lot going up and down rocky hills and hollers. I also have some Mucks and they are good boots but not as light as the UA..
Lacrosse Alpha
i think the danner pronghorn snake boot is one of the best boots made and very comfortable
Lacrosse Alpha Lites are hard to beat.
If cactus is an issue, go all leather. I wear Danner Quarry for work and hunting. Solid boot, waterproof, and not too hot for Texas.
Boggs Classics are another good choice. Been wearing them for several seasons and I am very satisfied with their comfort and durability.

I have a couple pairs of Danner Pronghorns. They're good, comfortable boots. A couple of my hunting buddies really like them as well.

LaCrosse Alphaburly if you like rubber... if you like a snake boot, try the Rocky Rattler from BPS.

Another vote for Lacrosse Alpha burlys here.
A few reasons I use them:
Weight-3.5lbs
Flexible-bend at the ankles well, when sitting against a tree with regular rubber boots I always hated the confining stiff ankle area.
Footbed-Hiking boot style footbed sure makes 4-6 miles of walking a day much better on your feet.
I also use a thin set of polypropylene liner socks under a thin set of cotton socks during warm hunts. Cotton socks may be damp but feet will still be dry and blister free no matter how much walking I've done and I do alot.
Same here.....

EVERY BODY'S FEET ARE DIFFERENT THOUGH
JUST GO TO A STORE WITH ALOT OF DIFFERENT ONES AND TRY THEM ALL
THEN LOOK FOR THE BEST PRICE
GOOD LUCK
They aren't snake boots but I also recommend the Lacrosse Alpha Burlys. I bought my first pair late last year to wear rabbit hunting, which most of the time requires alot of walking. I will be wearing them this upcoming turkey season too because of the comfort and they are lightweight which also means alot. :OGani:
I use the Cabelas Pinnacle snake boots
I too, have a pair of lacrosse alpha burlys, but i dont see how u fellas call em light. I think they weigh slightly less than cinder blocks on my feet! I love em for bowhunting where im doing little walking, mostly to stand and back out. For turkey, its my muck wetlands, hands down. Prob weigh half what those alphas do. Later in spring as the ground dries and i do alot more run and gun i switch to standard lightweight hiking boots. Feet sweat alot walking in rubber and even with moisture wicking socks i dont care for the wetness in the boot. So i wear the mucks when i need the rubber and switch to hiking boots as soon as conditions permit.
Also our local BassPro has the Danner Pronghorn snakeboots for $139
I have a pair of Muck Field Blazer Boots and find them to be very comfortable.

I've owned a couple of pairs of Danner Pronghorns, so here is my $0.02. There are very comfortable if you don't need a lot of support (i.e, any type of mountain hunting). They are light and flexible but not much for support. For South Dakota terrain, they might be just fine. There are plenty of people that really like them.
If I was going to buy a boot in that style and price range I would seriously consider these: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Uninsulated-Ultralight-Hunter-Boots-by-Meindl/1237095.uts?WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104797980%3Bcat104826780%3BMCcat105543180
