I am asking b/c we are going to Disney and all of our meals will be payed before we go, so we will need to tip.
20%
If the service is decent, I usually tip 20% to 33%...which in Disney dollars turns out be about $400 per meal. :D
15 to 20 percent
Somewhere between 20-30%
20-30%
20 = 25 %
20%
20% of pre-tax amount.

15 to 20 percent
Unless its Christmas time when I try to tip a bit more.
20% normally.
30% for outstanding service, the service which always makes the meals/atmospheres better.
10% for the worst, even if I don't think the service deserves anything. I never know what a person may be going through to cause such poor service.
God Bless,
David B.
I dont tip none i figure as high as the food is, they getting my money anyway.Call me a elcheapo i dont care.
Unless the waitress looks good. But most of the time i always get weirdos for waitress.
About 20% as long as I don't have to listen to It's A Small World or Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious again during my meal.
We usually tip 20%, however today my wife and myself ate out and the meal was $23, but our waitress was in her 60's and the sweetest lady you would ever want to meet, she was too old to be waiting tables and she had a real bad limp. My wife gave her a $5 tip.

I usually double the tax and add some till I get an even number. Who carries a calculator with them to figure out what 20% is?

They work for $4.25/hr. Your tip is how they get paid. You would not work for that.
John

+1
CB about 18% in NY
I served tables through college and for a short time after college.
A lot of college graduates can't find jobs right now and are out there running tables to pay their bills, including their student loans.
I tip between 25-30% for exceptional service and a delightful personality.
20% for good/great service without personality.
10% if the service was poor/non-existant
Most servers work for 2.75-4.00 per hour. That's half or less than half of minimum wage and many work pretty hard to ensure a positive dining experience.
Not tipping..... man, no class....
:goofball: :goofball:
I take all that back i did give a tip at Hooters Restaurant before.
15% on the net amount prior to sales tax being added. If I get better then usual service I will tip more.
Joe,
To take 20% all you need to do is find 10% and double it!
15% normally, but if they are really good then 20%. I'm po and save my money for hunting!!! :fud:
Waitresses/waiters in WV pay taxes on what they serve...on the amount of the bill.
Working in the food service for over 20 years, I've seen a couple with a minus paycheck...they owed they didn't get paid.
It's a rare occasion when we don't tip.
Being a poor government worker, I am usually restricted to 10%.
Most agree that 10% to 20% is appropriate according to quality of service, with 10% being a minimum for less than average service.
An easy way to figure 10% of your ticket is to move the decimal point (that little dot between the numbers that seperates dollars and cents) one digit to the left. For example, if your bill is $37.00, move the decimal point to the left to get $3.70, or 10% of your total. When it is not an even dollar amount, $29.53 for example, do the same process and round up to the next whole dollar - $2.95 or $3.00. To figure 20%, just double the amount you get when you move the decimal point. If 10% equals $3.00, then 20% equals $6.00.
No, I am not an elementary school math teacher. :)
As others have said, most waiters/waitresses work for about half the minimum wage and rely on the tips to make working a profitable proposition. That SHOULD motivate them to provide service above what most consider average. I see this first hand working at Pizza Hut several nights a week (gotta love Dave Ramsey).
Delivery tips seem to be more questionable as far as appropriate amounts. You could do an interesting "socio-economic" study in regards to tip amounts as compared to residences. Just last night I went to a gated estate that would be worth a minimum of half a million dollars (no joke) and got a $3 tip on a $20 order. I also went to a trailer house that was likely built in the 1970's with steps that tilt away from the porch (feel like you are leaning backwards as you climb up) and got a $6 tip on a $20 order. It's generally not a profitable situation when mom and dad send the teenager or kids to the door with the money. :-\
20% in most cases. If I'm eating somewhere real cheap I will tip more.
