I bought two FF3's. One for my son and one for me. I tried to get the battery cover on the first one with the battery that came with it and it was pointless. I ended up doing some searching online and found many recommending the Duracell CR1632 battery so I bought several. The cap actually went on one of them pretty easily with the Duracell battery but will not go on the other. I've tried spinning counterclockwise first to line up the threads but it just doesn't want to go on. It will go on with no battery in the compartment. Any suggestions here? I did contact Burris and am waiting to hear back from them as well. I do have to say that the design for the battery cap is garbage. I hope if something is stripped it is just the cover and not the threads on the sight itself.
Thank You!
Are u using the screw driver in the box?
Only fix I heard of was Duracell. Hmmm.
They are troublesome at times. I have 2 also and had a little trouble getting one started. Seems like there's a magic spot that get's them going on. It could really be better set up. Hopefully someone from Burris checks out OG and changes something. Can't remember what exact battery I used, but both were the same. Will be changing out those batteries in the next couple weeks. So anger issues to come.

I tried several different screwdrivers from very narrow to very wide....
I don't use a screwdriver because you can't get on the cover straight with the hood in the way. Make sure it's visibly laying flat, press down with your finger and twist it in with friction.
My best conclusion to this problem for myself. I want buy another one of them FF3 ... IMO....

I would agree Greg. I certainly won't be buying another. This is ridiculous.
Burris is sending me a new cap. They said that usually solves the problem.
:I called them last year and they know there's an issue.
After several attempts it went on.
Other than that it's the best optics lve ever had on a shotgun.
I use a dab of choke tube grease on the threads, no issues now...
I have 3 of these and am lucky to have no issues using the Duracell battery....
I have three Fastfire 3 sights and always use the Duracell batteries but I also remove the o-ring. It seems to let the cap drop farther down before I start to tighten. Since I use a rubber cover over the sight until it's showtime, I feel I'm ok without the o-ring.

^^^^^
This. But they ARE a pain in the hind end......
Haven't had any problem changing batteries in mine. I wonder if they had a run of ones that
were off from a Q.C. standard? I have heard of this problem enough that could be the case.
At least Burris is making it right by replacing the covers.

I wish they had the shake awake feature and auto shutoff as well. This is my first reflex sight so I don't have any experience to compare to.
FF3 does have auto shut off.. like 12 hours
Duracell battery was a much easier choice for me.
It's why I use Vortex now...too many other brands out there that don't have this issue.

Good to know! I did not see that in the manual but searched online and it said 9 hours. Thanks for the info!!

Which Vortex? I believe the Venom is very similar to the Burris and also has issues with the battery covers.
I have three of them. Two are perfect with no issues ever. The last one I bought for a 410 I have had trouble with. Proper sized screw driver aligned well with a little down pressure seems to have got it squared away.
Using a Energizer battery in all of them
I do have a couple of venoms and several fastfires. I've had nothing but aggravation with the fastfires but I personally haven't with the venoms although I could image their problems would be similar. It's probably a crap shoot either way. Good luck

Have you had issues with the Fastfires other than the ridiculous battery covers?
The fastfires are fine. No performance issues my biggest complaint is the battery covers. I personally like having more brightness settings than 3, and haven't experienced battery cover issues with the Venoms. So. I made the change to Vortex. I also like the 6 moa on the Venom versus 8 or 3 on the fiastfire. All personal choices of course.
Well Burris sent a new battery cover and it doesn't screw on with the battery in place so I'm sending the sight back for replacement or repair. Just a terrible design for the battery cover. I will certainly never buy another.

Amen, me either ...
Just an update here. I sent the sight back to Burris for replacement or repair. I just got a message that they are sending me a new one.

I would message them back or call them and tell them to install the battery please before sending the replacement ... You know what i mean... LOL...
I almost pulled my hair out trying to get the battery cover on mine. I was about ready to smash it with a hammer. Lol It finally did go on, and it is a wonderful sight other than that.

I actually tried that once...they did not install it for me :z-dizzy:
