What kind of pocket knife or knives do you carry? How do you like carrying your pocket knife, in a leather belt sheath or pocket clip knife? Are you a multi-tool kind of person? Sharing some history of the knife you carry. Have you carried the same one for many years. Brand - type was it a gift or one you inherited from a family member or friend? As a kid growing up getting my first pocket knife was a big part of growing up. The day i got my first pocket knife was just as important as the day I got my first 410 shotgun. It was all part of becoming a man. It was an exciting day getting that first pocket knife from my dad, it was one of the old now vintage US stamped Camillus knives with blade, bottle opener / screwdriver, leather auger. I still have this knife in my safe. After becoming a working man i always carried a 3 blade small type pocket knife one was old timer next a winchester brand 3 blade and now i carry a small 3 blade Case knife that my wife inherited form her dad, she wanted me to carry this knife in honor of her dad. My first hunting knife was a Buck 110 given as a christmas gift from my brother who passed away several years ago, to this day i still have a carry that Buck 110 with me on all my deer hunting adventures. This knife has seen a lot of action in the deer woods over the years. So share some history of your favorite pocket knife or knives you carry or use everyday or your favorite hunting knife.
Been carrying a 1940-1964 Rogers Bone Case SlimLine Trapper for years now. Got several of em. Favorite pocket knife for everyday and turkey skinning. Got an old Boker Folding Hunter for deer.

I usually carry a Ka Bar Dozier with a pocket clip. Not too big, easy to access and weighs very little. I've lost 'em and bought a replacement and found my knife enough to have three of them now.
I've recently become a fan of the Outdoor Edge replaceable blade knives. I have a new one that I can't wait to try on a turkey so I may be carrying a new knife in the woods this spring. Their EDC version has a pocket clip and is very light.
I've got more pocket knives and hunting knives than I care to admit. I have several Case knives, mostly from my Dad that I don't carry because of sentimental reasons. I carry depending on what I'm doing, so it changes on a daily basis. At work I carried multi tools but now since I'm retired I mostly edc a Spyderco manix2 or various buck knives, either pocket clips or in sheaths.
For turkey hunting I carry a Leatherman multi too they only made for a short while that has pruners, saw blade, knife blade as well as other tools supposedly geared for hunting. Every person I've ever guided or taken turkey hunting wants to buy it off me. For deer hunting I carry a Sharpfinger, a real old USA made one that I've had for decades.
Nice post Greg...every knife I have has a story and a lot of good memories.
For years I carried a Schrade/Uncle Henry Trapper. Then I forgot it on an out-of-state turkey hunt one year and bought the Cheapest Schrade that Walmart had. It was a U.S. made black plastic handled, stainless lock-back. Still have it. But my daily carry now is a Spyderco Delica pocket clip. INSANELY sharp.
I carry a Remington folding Turkey Hunter. Very simple, but just right for a Turkey hunter. It has a regular blade, small pin tool to remove action pins from Shotguns, Remington Choke tube wrench for 10 and 12 gauge guns. Very handy to gut/fillet a bird, and has the shotgun tools in an emergency. Doesn't take any room, very light. Got it at a flee market many years ago.....

I ALWAYS have a Dozier in my pocket. Bet I've owned and lost ten. But during turkey season I like to tote knives that have sentimental value to me. That's just my favorite time of the whole year so that everything I do becomes a sort of ritual. That's the only time I carry the knives that normally stay in the safe. Last year I carried this old Ronnie Boydston knife almost all season. That pic was on a day last year when I'd just finished gutting a bird by a creek. Also, look at all that branch lettuce in that last picture

This is awesome and what it's all about ... sharing that personal knife or knives ....
great pics David!
I have several from my dad that are case brand, a set of pearl handle kissing cranes, and a couple more that I won't carry for fear of losing. I carry a bone handle case 3 blade trapper every day and have for had it the past 5 or 6 years. It's in my front pocket. I have a case liner lock single blade my mom bought me when I was 11 or 12 to skin the critters I caught trapping. I carried it for a few years but have since put it up. I have a couple kissing crane Halloween edition knives that have never been out of the box my mom bought for me when I was in middle school. In high school I carried a puma folding knife that belonged to my great papaw that my mamaw had given me but lost it coon hunting one night and never found it again. I'm still sick over it. For hunting I alternate between a fixed blade kissing crane that was my dad's. I used it to gut and work up 6 to 7 deer a year, plus turkey, squirrel, fish, etc for the past 12 or so years and he gave it to me because of how much I favor it and bought himself a new one. The only other one I alternate with is a handmade knife I bought when my wife, kids, and myself made our first trip to Maryland and when I picked it up I had to have it. It's my most expensive knife I've owned and also one of the most sentimental because of the experience with it.

A great story and thanks for sharing your knives with all of us ...
Not sure of the first pocket knife I ever carried but I still have a Kabar with bone handle my Dad gave me for deer hunting when I was 12. I remember having a Schrade when I was a kid because my Dad carried one everyday at work. He worked in lumber mills so remember he used it mostly to remove splinters.
I carry a Buck folding knife and/or a multi tool I carry when turkey hunting, usually I take both because I do not like the knife blade on the multi tool but like the tool options. I have a custom straight blade my wife bought for me 30 years ago for deer or other large game hunting. I used to carry a small Buck knife that was slightly larger than a pen knife for every day use. I lost it one time and later found it so I quit carrying it an now it sets atop the dresser.
Carried a Old Timer 340T for a long time. My Dad passed a way a couple of years ago, now I carry his Buck 303.
Great thread, Greg!
My first pocket knife was a green bone handled Case lock back. I was 8, and I got it for Christmas. I thought that I had kinda been jipped on Christmas, but my dad had already planned to take me to pick out a knife at Sargent Cutlery in Florence, AL. I got to meet Jim Sargent then, and he had all kinds of questions for me in helping me pick the one that I liked the most. I fell in love with that Case lock back, and it came home with me.
Prior to that my dad would only let me handle his knives, but this one was all mine, and in my pocket every day! I carried it primarily for 15 years, occasionally carrying one of the other many knives that I had added to my collection. I always came back to that Case, though. I scuffed up the blade pretty badly while learning how to sharpen it on stones, but that didn't matter.
I lost it in 2007. I was hunting, and I did my very best to retrace all of my steps but I never found it, even after borrowing a metal detector and searching for it. I made the decision then that I would not carry sentimental knives with me...I have several that belonged to my dad, grandads, and one from a great-grandad that I would be sick if I lost, and I just don't want to run that risk. That one Case is the only knife that I have lost...so far! Still makes me sick thinking about it.
Nowadays I prefer to carry pocket clip single blade folders. I don't like them deep in my pocket, and want to be able to get to them quickly. My current every day pocket knife is a Civivi Elementum II. The blade is made of Nitro V, and has a RH score of 58-60. It stays scary sharp as well as any I have ever owned. It has G10 handles, and is pretty lightweight and low profile. I really like the button lock feature on it. If it was made in the USA (China...I know), I do believe it would be the perfect pocket knife! But, it's pretty perfect for me. I will occasionally carry a Buck 285 bantam that is the USA made version. I do prefer the Civivi, though.

Dad loved knives and collected Case knives, 33 years ago I told him I liked the small Gerber lockbacks he bought me for everyday carry but they were so lightweight I couldn't tell when they had slipped out of my pocket. He handed me a 3" stainless steel lockback a equipment & supply driver had given him and said here you should be able to feel this one (it's made by Case, but says Zippo bradford,Pa). I still carry that knife everyday at work.
Around 75' the first knife I recall was a small Case 379 hunting knife, losing it on a fishing trip in 90' made me sick, I finally replaced it around 2005 and gutted some Whitetail with it which eased the sting slightly, but I still miss that first knife Dad gave me.
For Turkey, Squirrel and Rabbit I use an A.G. Russell bird and trout blade that Dad bought me in early 90's, but since Dad's passed and never got to experience Turkey hunting (I know he would have loved it) I use his same knife, and his antique Case 2 blade bone handled folder is always in my pocket on hunting or fishing trips.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a havalon knife. That's what I carry so I always have a surgical sharp knife that weighs almost nothing

Most days I carry a benchmade folding knife with a pocket clip. When I am in the mountains I carry my Skookum Bush Tool made by Rod Garcia.
I was a havalon guy but I got tired of moving it in between my rabbit vest to my turkey vest and my deer pack. This Christmas my brother in law got me an NWTF CaseXX Sod Buster Jr. First thing I did was slide it in my striker pocket on my vest. Looking forward to using it this spring.
I have a Buck 503C in my pocket (medium size slim line) and their 105 Pro goes when the day may involve game. Some 110's along with Leatherman tools are scattered around in vests, toolboxes, etc
I carry an Uncle Henry two blade folding trapper pocket knife. It does the job and if I lose it I'm not going to cry.
I carry a Chris Reeve small sebenza daily in a moonshine leatherworks front "wallet" with keys cards
I don't use this knife for hunting/skinning. I have a straight blade benchmade "skinner" with rubberized grip that I don't think they make anymore
Went to this when regular wallet was causing back/nerve problems in lower back
Never go back....

I have a lot of hunting knives I've accumulated through the years, but my most recent addition is probably the most special to me. My three children chipped in and got me this blue handled pocket knife. It is a Giantmouse folder in CPM 20cv steel. I love the blade shape, like a boning or fillet knife. It is very solidly built and only weighs 2.5ozs.
Beside always carrying one pocket knife I also have an Esse Izula fixed blade in razor sharp carbon steel lashed to my vest strap. It weighs a whopping 1.8 ozs.
The knife in the last picture was purchased on super sale clearance. I'm a suckered for a bargain and I couldn't believe nobody wanted to buy it. It's a Case trapper with a gobbler cut into the bone handle.

I carry a leatherman hunting in the spring, so I suppose that's my hunting pocket knife - all my others are fixed blades. When I was a kid I got a few of my grandfather's old knives, Richards lamppost jobs that weren't worth the steel used to make them, but they had sentimental value so they stay on my beside table with my wallet and other odds n' ends. My Buck stockman though, has ridden in my pocket since my first summer of University when I picked it up in a hunting and fishing store on my first summer in foresty work when I was 500 miles from home and needed something I could depend on. The fella behind the counter treated me with more courtesy and friendliness than I'd had in months of working in remote towns, and must have shown me every knife in the display case to make sure I got exactly what I wanted, and I've never forgotten that demonstration of care. It's nothing, just a cheap little brass and dymondwood number, but but I've peeled apples, hung deer, snipped fishing line and opened more than one beer with it over the last decade - and I miraculously haven't lost it yet!
I have a Case 6111 1/2 vintage late 60s, early 70s. My dad bought one for himself, one for brother and one for me. My bro and I still have ours, Dad does not know where his wound up. I carry it, but not too often as I don't want to lose it now. It has met a few deer throats.
My dad actually sold Camillus knives at his hardware and before he sold the business, my brother and i went through and spent our whole savings at the time buying as many as we could at cost. I have 20 or so in original boxes and cellophane, most of them packed lightly in grease. I pull one out every few years and carry one. They are not worth as much as you would think and I would rather give them to my grandsons one day.
I carry a cheapo in my vest that I don't care if I lose. I actually carry in my truck a pair of knives I got as a gift from NWTF and they are nice for cleaning a bird. Deer too.

I've got a ton of pocket knives, I carry different ones at different times, no rhyme or reason.
I mostly carry a benchmade Osborn 940 or SuperFreek or Griptilian or an older Case Sodbuster
For skinning game, I started using an Outdoor Edge Razorlite a few years back with replaceable blades. I keep them in the truck, vest and backpacks. They work great and are handy to use in the field or the skinning rack.
I have some custom knives but never used them for whatever reason. I like the replaceable blade knives
I have a Benchmade bugout I really like.

Love that Knife with the gobbler on it, real nice.....
I have two that I carry one is Queen Steel #39 that Mom and Dad got me for Christmas 50 some years ago that always goes deer hunting with me. The other is a Benchmade, the model that got them in trouble with Spydeco over the hole in the blade. I had the blade lazer etched on it at the NWTF convention with my screen name Tom Threetoes.
Some really cool stories guys!
I bought a Benchmade Mini Bugout on a sale a while back. It's a great little knife and it's so light it disappears in my pocket.
I carry a camillus lockback that i picked up at an estate sale for cheap. It was in great shape just needed sharpened and a little bit if brass polish. Its with me every time i go in the woods. If its not in my turkey vest its in my backpack.
Here's an older Ray Cover fixed blade that I usually carry in the spring. This particular day I found a nice patch of morels. I have many custom knives , but this knife is an old favorite
I neglected to mention above that I do use a Havalon for most of my butchering of critters. I keep it, along with several replacement blades, in my truck at all times. If I'm deer hunting deep enough in that I plan to pack one out, I carry it with me. If I'm just field dressing one and hauling it out in the sled, I just use whatever pocket knife I have on me, or a spare that's in my pack. After I get them hung at the house, the havalon comes out.
For turkeys, I always use the havalon after getting them to the truck or house. Great option for keeping a sharp blade.

First pocket knife when I was very little was a small thin 2 blade from my Pop Pop that is an antique, 2nd was also from him and was a Barlow pocket knife, thats what he used on the farm.
My Dad got small 3 blade Old timers for my brothers, me and for himself, I still have it. The main blade has been sharpened so much it like a needle
I carry a Benchmade Osborn Rift on a clip. I also hunted with a Buck 110 for years, my wife gave it to me before we were married, still have it. It was sharpened so much the tip of the blade stuck up when closed, filed off some of the stop and that fixed that.
For quite a few years I have only ,hunted with a couple of fixed blade hand forged antler handle knives and a couple of Swedish Mora knives, I prefer fixed blades for hunting.
I have way too many knives to mention lol. It's as addicting as turkey calls. My favorite everyday is a muskrat model either by old timer, case, boker or others. I just really like the 2 blades on the muskrat models. I have gutted and skinned deer with them but I usually carry a little bigger sheathed knife as well when I am hunting deer .
My grandad taught me that a man always had a lighter and a pocketkife. I have always kept that idea and carry both almost every day, and I am not a smoker. I have a bunch I carry from day to day, mainly Case or Camillus. I occasionally carry my wife's grandfather's pocketknife that he gave me. It was his pocketknife he carried overseas during world War 2.
Back in 1973 I was a Jr. High kid living in Roxboro NC. We had moved there for my father's work, he built electric power plants. We owned a home in Texas but his work had us moving every two or three years. So we usually rented a house. In this case, it was a house on Lake Hyco. We had no neighbors close, just woods, turkeys and other game...and that lake. I was in paradise!
One summer day I was swimming down by the pier. The landlords were wonderful people who had a weekend lake house next door that they used occasionally. They had a senior family member over that day. As I swam he sat on the bench near the shore whittling on a stick. We talked some and he was a kindly old man, and funny. After a time, he got up and walked back to the house. I swam a while longer and noticed a pocket knife on the bench when I was leaving. I took it to the old man, explaining how I found it. Now I know for sure that old man left that knife. There had been no one else there. But he looked it over closely, turning it in his hand before passing back to me and telling me that it wasn't his. He said I was fortunate to find a nice knife, but it wasn't his. I smiled as I left for home with my new knife, but I knew.
I've never forgotten that man's kindness. Over the years I've forgotten a few knives in the presence of a boy of appropriate age myself. And if I feel the need to remind myself to be kind and generous, I go pull it out of my desk.

Many good stories on here but this one is my favorite.
As a kid I had a knife my grandfather bought me. I don't know what became of that but eventually I went to a buck, I think called muskrat. Was a small pocket type knife. I've carried a folding hunter on my hip since I was a teen. Idk how many of them I have but a bunch. Also carried a buck small game knife with the gut hook. Never used the gut hook. Silly thing. Buck didn't make that knife themselves btw. I've got lots of Bucks in general. Today besides that I carry a Remington pocket knife. Idk who made it for them but it's got a thin blade, serrated type blade I use all the time opening things at work. A punch and choke wrench I don't think I've ever used. Turkeys and small game get cleaned by the pocket knifes. Deer hunting besides the knives I have on me in my pack is a Buck woodsman and the one I use. It's a perfect knife for deer, bear size game and it's a fixed blade. Easier to clean. When I mentor a kid deer hunting I buy an extra. Once the kid is successful we use the brand new knife to field dress it. I clean it, explain sharpening and how important it is to touch up on hard steel, than I give the kid the knife. I've still got my first knife I've used on deer. Still a prized possession. I bet it'll be that way for the kids as well. I sometimes carry a leatherman

I got a three blade shared old time as a gift probably 40 years ago. I usually carry it in a small mesh bag in my vest that also has some other odds and ends. I carry a small multi tool as well, never know when something will need fixed.

I got several that are priceless to me. Keep sakes not expensive. Got a knife my Grandpa always carried in his overalls pocket daily until the day he died. 1902-1977. I was probably 6 or so when it was given to me by Grandma. Also got an Old Timer 3 blade. Grandpa on my other side used to buy a grandson a pocket knife for Christmas when he thought the grandson was old enough. Think there were 12 grandsons that I recall. Still got those knives but they stay in the gun safe nowadays. I have gotten to where I keep a multi-tool in my turkey vest. Pretty handy item.

I have carried a pocket knife almost all my life. My Dad always had either a sheath or pocket knife on him and it rubbed off on me. I think my first pocket knife was a 3 blade Boy Scout knife, although my first knife was a small sheath knife w/ a compass in the handle(dull as sh-t). I've had many over the years and one of my favorites was a Buck Muskrat (pre-China). Had it for 30 years before it went missing. Currently carrying an Opinel #8 but that could change depending on my mood.
That reminds me, there was a time in early 2000s that I carried a sheath knife with a compass in the handle too. I carried it twice in the field and then retired it to the shelf. Way to heavy/bulky and if I'm being honest , expensive at the time. It's a Randall fish and fowl, I think, with awesome stag handle. It's in the picture below with a repost of what I carry now, an Esse Izula. Not nearly as exciting to carry but a major 11oz lighter and lays super flat. Unnoticeable, and does the exact same thing as the Randall, until I get lost of course!

Speaking of Randall's, one the the knives my Dad left me was a 6" Model 5 Camp knife. Beautiful blade and sheath but as you said a little heavy to carry in the field.
Case trapper for work and everyday carry .
Havalon for game skinning .
I carry a small rosewood handled 2blade jack knife from Old Timer that I bought as part of a 3 knife kit in 2017 because I lose them. I'm still on #1 so I guess I jinxed myself by buying a 3 pack. It has "limited edition" on the blade so I feel fancy. LOL.
For most of my time in the woods I carry a Ruana 11b small hunter made by Rudy, and a vintage Buck 301 stockman for splinters and thorns. Deer and bear I carry a vintage Ruana custom Finn also made by Rudy (M stamp) with a bigger blade.
More pockets knives than I know what to do with but, I carry a small 3 blade Case Knife that my dad carried for years. I'll carry it until my grandson is older enough to have it.
Carried for years and still have a yellow handle Case Trapper. Only small issue with that knife is the CV blades take a little maintenance to keep them from rusting. I do a fair amount of saltwater fishing so the last couple of years my go to has been a Kershaw Leek. I have always liked the assisted opening design and with a stainless blade and pocket clip it goes with me almost everywhere.
Quote from: Tail Feathers on January 26, 2023, 11:00:30 AMI've recently become a fan of the Outdoor Edge replaceable blade knives. I have a new one that I can't wait to try on a turkey so I may be carrying a new knife in the woods this spring. Their EDC version has a pocket clip and is very light.
Absolutely!! They come in different colors too, including blaze orange, which makes it easier to find if (when) you drop it.
You just can't beat a brand new blade when you're skinning a gobbler.
My EDC is a Victorinox Swiss Army Spartan. It's been the most carried of any of my pocket knives since I got my first one in 1977 or so for signing up for an REI Co-op membership. I did carry a Buck 110 when I was in the USN. That thing got used and abused maintaining a jet fuel system on ship board.
For cleaning birds I keep an old Remington Uplander and a Grohmann Trout and Bird knife in my hunting tool kit. For field dressing deer I keep an old Buck 110 in my backpack.
Carried a kershaw for years. Had bucks, gerbers, & a few others. Then got a Walmart d2 steel blade ozark trail this past winter.
Does everything I could ask and then some. Holds an edge like my wife holds grudges!
Best thing. It was literally 10 bucks. And it's lite. But for 10 bucks come on! And clipped in pocket. By far best knife I've ever owned and ain't worried about it. If I loose it, ok. If it breaks, aite. But so far I've been impressed.
Quote from: Tail Feathers on January 30, 2023, 12:43:37 PMBack in 1973 I was a Jr.

<3 Beautiful! :camohat:
About 25 years ago, my work travels took me through Bradford, PA, so I stopped at the Case/Zippo factory. Purchased a 2-blade stag handle peanut while there, and it has ridden in my pocket everyday since. Handle has been worn down pretty good after all these years. Find the peanut's clip and pen blades are just about perfect for the vast majority of those everyday type tasks.
I have carried this old Swiss Army knife forever. Slender and easy to carry in my pants pocket. Will handle 80% of anything that might require a tool.

Been "toting" (as my Grandpa called it) a pocket knife since I was 11-12. My very first pocket knife was a small three blade old timer. I carried it for years, I lost it and found it more times than I can remember. I have always loved knives, and have several, including several sentimental knives that were my grandfather's and my dad's. Most of them were case three blade Stockmans. As a wedding present, my wife gave me an antique wooden toolbox. That is what I keep my knife collection in. My go to carry now is a Spyderco para military 3, and most of the time a case Canoe knife. I love caring knives with pocket clips, for the ease of access, but something special about that case canoe.

Along with a trusty pocket knife, I'll be adding one of these fixed blade knives to my hunting bag for fabricating/ boning birds after the hunt. They are all smaller than a standard short box in length.
The stacked leather one is made in California by RL Bruce in the tradition of old Marbles and Scagle knives. It has a little sharpening rod in the sheath.
The second one is a custom made stag handled by an Argentinean maker. The blade is carbon steel on the inside clad with stainless. It's like a razor.
And the last one is Chris Reeves' latest bird knife. The blade is hollow ground Magnacut which is a spectacular super steel but expensive. I have a chefs knife made out of it and it's great in every way. You can remove the micarta scales on this thing and it only weighs 1.6 oz. I might lash it to my vest but I already have a carbon steel Esse attached from the past 5 seasons which I already posted a couple years ago.
Anyway, that's the knife news from Zobo. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250408/2898d67030c6f76fe4f973e04ca8cc44.jpg)

My EDC is a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. For cleaning a turkey, my absolute favorite is a Havalon Piranta-Edge.
Case muskrat
Currently carry an Opinel No.7. Great knife for every day use. Gets very sharp very fast. For years I carried a Buck Muskrat. I'm pretty sure someone walked off with it when I put it down somewhere. SOB!

In my deer kill kit I have a full size Griptilian. That thing is a workhorse.
