Title: Pants.....
Post by: 357MAGNOLE on January 19, 2023, 08:32:37 AM
Who in your opinion puts out the best quality pants for turkey hunting? Preferably in Bottomland or Greenleaf.

I have worn out 2 sets of pants directly from Mossy oak in the past two seasons, they are just cheap material and cheaply put together. Buttons don't hold up etc. I just purchased a leafy jacket and head gear from North Mountain. Hopefully, it can last me some years, I am looking for pants that will hold up like a good pair of jeans would. Really don't care what they cost if they are going to get me 10 years of usage.

I was in this position several years ago and went with Sitka Mountain Pants. Priced like a high dollar box call but perfect for me. Stretchy material with lots of pockets with good zippers and snap closures, no velcro. After 5 or 6 years they show little sign of wear. Not gonna find them in your camo patterns.

I haven't tried them myself but a they come highly recommended by a seasoned traveling turkey I heard on recent podcast.

Different camo patters that I have grown the like but I love the way Kuiu fit, great button, very durable, and a great fit. Going my fourth season with them and they are holding up great.

THANK YOU!!!! Great suggestion. They where discounted down on the website for the relaxed fit at $74 and there was a 20% off code online T22PC11 if anyone else wants to use it. Got the pants ordered for $63.88 shipped.

I got the full set of duluth bottom land camo during the holidays.   Incredibly well made like the rest of their stuff.  I have worn the more expensive brand (not naming names). It didn't hold up and the pattern is horrible for Eastern North Carolina.

Don't get the relaxed fit. Get the standard. Relax fit is super baggy. I love these pants.

For lightweight pants, I love Nomads Stretch Lite Pant. A pair will run you $100 but i find them on sale pretty regularly for $50 to $75.

Bass Pro Shop's Silent Hide pants are some of the best I've ever come across.  Very well made and with good pocket snaps.  They are in their propriety True Timber camo patterns, but they have one that is very Mossy Oak Obssession like.

Mossy Oak brand offered pants that I think were outstanding.  I don't see those exact pants on their site anymore.  I think they were unlined Cotton Mill 2.0.  They are outstanding as BPS Silent Hide, and had a little, grippy, soft rubber strip on the inside of the waist band that helped keep them from slipping down.

As far as durability the surplus bdu's with cross stitching have stood up and are pretty cheap. Bought a pair of carhart pants in advantage last fall and they held up great through deer season and fall turkey. I'll get several years out of them.

Not bottomland but I'm a fan of kuiu katana pants and pattern which are well suited for warm active hunts. also like first lite sawbuck pants if you're hunting in thicker areas

Ol' Tom Bottomland pants. They have a stretch material, padded knees  and real nice pocket setup. They wear like iron, have used them for few years now. Good thing is they do not fade when washed, and shed water somewhat....

I've been wearing a pair of Nomad Stretch Lite pants for a few seasons now and they have held up very well. I wear them deer hunting also so they've gotten a lot of use. For a lighter weight hiking style pant they are great.

I wore Sitka pants for the first time last year.  They are shredded from walking through greenbriar.  Normal turkey hunting here in the south and absolutely feel apart.  I called Sitka and they sent me some patches.  Terrible pants.

These are my go to pants also.  I removed the knee pads and have wear them during deer season also.
I have some of the Mossy Oak Tibbee Flex pants also and no issues with wear or buttons on either.  Both of these are great for warm weather and if it's cool I just wear a light base layer under them.

The Ol Tom pants also have a reinforced seat which I like. Cool in warm weather and dry quickly, so far seem to be pretty durable. I have used them two seasons now, no issue, they are a little pricey.

Did tare a new Ol Tom shirt last season on the last day of season crawling through some shale. I think I paid 70-80$ bucks for the shirt, it is still usable, good reminder that I need to get that fixed. The shirts I love, have several in different patterns, very comfortable, cool, dry quickly. Did have trouble with deodorant turning the Mossy Oak almost white under the arms. A wash fixed it and it does not seem to be stained from it.

Duluth makes the toughest pair of blue jeans I have ever owned!!! They aint cheap, but the next jeans I buy will be Duluth Coolmax again.

I just ordered a pair of the Duluth Firehose bottomland pants. Duluth is having a 40% off sale today so the total tax and all was $62.99. I ordered the slims because I'm short and relaxed fit is usually pretty baggy on me. I'll report back with how they fit. I love the Wrangler hiking pants and I have pair of Nomad Stretch lites that have been great. I hope these fit well. I did see one review that the camo pants are made in a different country than the other firehose pants and were not as good of a quality. I'll update when I get them in hand.

Here you go. Somehow I managed to ramble on for 9 minutes about these pants that I've only worn for thirty minutes lol. I didn't mention the noise. They're a little noisy from the stiffer fabric but I expect that to go away with a little use or a wash.

Another vote for the Duluth standard fit. The pockets are well thought out, good and stretchy too. Don't tell anyone how good the briar pants are either please.

Thanks for the video. I have Drake pants for cooler weather that I like but their lightweight pants don't fit the same. I like the look of those Nomads. What size do you wear in them?

My Nomads say Medium on the tag. I wear a 32 in my jeans and Wrangler hiking pants. I wish I had two more pairs of them just to have on hand. I need to pick up a pair in Obsession to. They're just so expensive. I've got to start saving for gas money!

So the cargo pocket flaps on the Duluth are velcro and not buttons? That's a pass for me then.

Honestly if you want tough get some mil spec bdu pants from what ever brand you choose. I like multi cam for a pattern but it really doesn't matter.

I thought the same, but they are so nice that I may just get them switched to buttons or magnets.

Magellan cotton bottomland pants . Everytime I find a pair I like that are still cotton , they quit making them . Mossy oaks still makes them but they are very poor. The Magellan have a little poly in them so they stretch a little but don't have the flashiness of plastic clothes . I've had 2 sets now , and I buy them on clearance at academy during the holidays when I need them. Hard to beat for 20 bucks . My previous set is 2 seasons old now, and they are in great shape . However I do a couple things to keep them that way. One ... I don't routinely wash turkey hunting clothes , I just don't. Typically once a season , twice at the most. When I do wash them I hand wash them in my tub and I air dry them. This alone preserves them much longer , simply by not going in the washer and dryer . Banded had a great rip stop cotton poly blend that they quit making . It had , tapered legs , zippered pockets . Padded elbows and shoulder and a padded but. Probably the best I've owned , but also not cheap. They quit making them ....... Because nobody wants cotton anymore .... Except me .

Banded came out with a new pant called Bandlander Active pant that I just got that is really good quality.  Also have the Nomad pants that I really like but the Banded fabric seem just a hair thicker.  Both are great pants.

Yeah I don't think it will be a big deal to me but it would be an easy switch to take the Velcro off and add some buttons if you really like the pants. We modify all kinds of gear so we might as well be willing to do a little work to to some pants. Honestly I can see a metal button also scraping against a treestand or gun stock and making an equally negative sound. Magnets might be a good option if you could figure that out.

A Greg Massey post turned me onto Magellan "Hill Country" cargo pants from Academy and I picked up a pair for $20 on sale. Agree, they are hard to beat, rugged, color fast, and the sliding waistband makes them super comfy.

Picked up a pair of the Nomad NWTF style cargo in Bottomland couple years back on 50% off clearance, and these along with my Magellan are the go-to pants for spring and fall seasons. After a couple of seasons and a wash or two, the Magellan seem to be holding up much better, while the Nomad seem to be into that first stage of fading.

Academy's Magellan are hard to beat for the price and quality.

I hope Magellan continues to make them. I have a set I deer hunt in as well, and while they have faded from more washing obviously they aren't bleached out like some will. I think hand washing is probably what has saved my clothes the most . They just last longer without going into a violent machine
