Has anyone else received their Mississippi tag? Mine arrived in the mail today!
:blob10:
Submission for the lottery didn't end until yesterday. That was quick! But seriously, I didn't realize the out-of-state draw had occurred yet. Or are you referring to something else?
I don't know how to post a picture but this is an orange plastic license type paper 3 x 4 reading-Mississippi Department of fisheries parks. license with a signature block on the bottom says "309 spring turkey application but it looks like more than a receipt.
Above the signature area it says-! by signing below I certify all information is correct making a material fault statement to obtain a license is a felony additional ID as prescribed by MDWFP is required to be on your person with this license.
Hopefully someone else will receive one and confirm what it is. I got s receipt on the email when I applied.
That sounds like a receipt for the $0 draw submission. Could be wrong. But you will be emailed if you get drawn for the first two weeks draw saying you were successful. I feel confident with the submission period ending less than 24 hours ago you don't already have something in the mail about a successful draw. Again, could be wrong but keep an eye on your email.
They haven't had the drawing yet, that is a receipt where you applied. If you are successful you will be notified by email after the drawing.
Ok thanks.
Pretty jumpy ...
Seems like a waste of state money to USPS mail out a receipt to every applicant rather than email.
We do things a little different in the SIP, lol
Looks like maybe Tuesday of next week ...
If the number of applicants I hear is true ?
I'm thankful for the oos draw
Last year's draw emails went out 2/22. So early next week is likely timeframe.
They're out! Received my notice about 15 minutes ago.
Heck yeah! I was also successful in the draw.
I was successful! Wonder how many got drawn?
Another year not drawn. I think I've had a total of 5 days (one 3 day and one 2 day) successful draws since the draws were implemented. This is why I don't buy lottery tickets
I got the one i really wanted and some good dates.
I got the public land permit for non resident, so are the WMA drawings out also? Or has that one even taken place yet?

They're both out. You should receive a separate email for the quota hunts.
If you watch the MDWFP monthly commissioners meeting online you will see that 1097 NR applied and they planned on giving out 1000 NR permits. The guy reporting said they may just give every body that applied a permit since the 2 numbers were so close. If that holds, luck had nothing to do with it, all you had to do was apply.

apparently from I've seen , everybody who normally attends got drawn .... Or either they are lying to get under residents skin .
I know of a few people that didn't get drawn .
I wonder if this a reflection of past NR hunter numbers during the 1st few weeks of the season or did a number of NR hunters plan on not participating because of the drawing and did not apply?
It's interesting that's for sure, but my guess would be many didn't apply this time .... What's funny is .... The folks who need ms for a bird , ain't the ones who applied . The ones who come here every year ...did. Just what I observed I'm sure some new ones applied and did get it
I wonder if the number that applied for the quota hunts changed any from usual?
Let's make some YouTube videos of some gobbling birds and then commence to explaining the draw to the masses more.
Next year we can prob even put the video out while the draw is still open.
It should really help the odds in the future

Mississippi doesn't have tags.

What I'd love to know is the % of non-residents vs residents who got drawn for the WMA hunts.

That's a great idea. We can pimp out the public hunting and the draw and make sure we are never drawn again! We will get so many likes/clicks it'll be worth it.

That should be random through the draw process and a different percentage every year.

I'd still like to see the data on it, I'm genuinely curious how many oos folks that put in for open land draws also put in for WMA's. I would imagine that it would be a pretty high percentage, but who knows.

Me to because I didn't draw.
I didnt draw either, and i know way more locals that didnt draw than did
Are we talking WMA hunts?
My original post was to nonresident hunters in the first 2 weeks. I was not successful in a WMA drawing. Does your state set aside a certain amount for non resident hunters and the balance for residents. I believe that's how it works for most of the western states.
Resident and i got one of three i applied for, none last season..

I'm a resident as well and your luck sounds like mine. I was 1-4 this year and 0-4 last year. I'm 3-14 over that past 4 seasons. Unlike some, I only put in for the ones I'd actually show up to and hunt. The system is a joke and will continue to be until they cap the number of WMA's you can apply for.
Oh well, it looks like I'll be "Joe Blow on the back 40" for the first 2 weeks again this year.

Yes, we're talking about WMA draws that even us residents have to apply for. I don't know the percentages but I'd be willing to bet it's designed for a healthy % of non-residents to get drawn because the almighty dollar talks.
I drew the one that is literally in my back yard for the lst time in 6 years of trying .

Ouch! That's gotta sting?!
On the WMA hunts do you only get drawn for 2 hunt days or can it be more than that? I was not drawn for wma.
For the public lands first 2 weeks. I received the email saying I won but when I log in it says I didn't. I emailed them to try and figure out what's going on.

I was told another year of record applicants.
You can e-mail them and ask for it.

Perhaps it's time to go back to limiting the # of WMA's that a person can apply for?

Would be nice! Or throw on an application fee. Charge for each WMA applied for.

I'd rather see a limit of 3-4 WMA draw applications instead of more fees. It would force people be more selective rather than going down the list and applying for all.

The money could go a long ways to better managing the wmas.
Maybe both?
