Who's ready for the south zone opener? I've seen pics of gobblers doing their thing for over a month now, with the mild winter and hot days. I'm ready to go!!

I'm looking forward to March 20 as I'm in central Florida. I'm hoping these rain storms that we are getting hit with clear up so some of the water clears up.

It's been 15 or so years since I've set foot in Florida and it was never to hunt.  I'll be hunting Florida for the first time this year on March 20th. Licenses, airline tickets, and car rental taken care of thus far.

Same here in North Florida. Five inches of rain last week on top of already saturated ground.

I'm ready.  Won't get to hunt the youth weekend this weekend but will let the boy have the honors until he limits so it doesn't really matter.  The have been doing their thing since the end of deer season both place I hunt, one way south of 70, one just north.

How bad is the hunting pressure on public land during the youth turkey season?

Depends on the individual wma. If it's central or south Florida then the pressure is usually just as high as the regular season.

You guys that will start next weekend and subsequent weekends in Florida, have FUN!  Great place to kick off the season!!  I've hunted there twice and LOVED every minute of it.  Those of you hunting Florida for the first time, take in the TOTAL experience.  The anticipation of being there, getting there by plane or driving, hunting with family or friends and the HUNTS need to be cherished and appreciated.  Killing a bird is just ICING.  Good Luck to All, Be SAFE and ENJOY EVERYTHING.  Out of State hunts are a BLAST!!!

Thermocel and OFF are packed. I always take 3 or 4 knives because we shoot every hog we see and that sand in the hair really does a blade in quick.  I also take about as much fishing tackle as turkey gear. The pond on our place has moster bass!! Action all day long makes it hard to get time on the beach lol...

For anyone in south Florida how wet has it been this year? Last year my time down there it was as dry as I've ever seen it, I was walking through bone dry cypress heads and encountered very little water. I'll be heading down Friday, good luck to everyone heading down!

It's a wet year down here. Places that were bone dry last year are half way up your shin now. Time to break out the crocs!

Leaving on the 19th for central Florida, south of Orlando. Good to hear it's wet again. It's been dry there the last 2 years which opens up a whole lot more of the cypress heads for the birds to hang out. With the water, at least the birds won't be nooning in those low spots although those birds are not averse to moving through water. Can't wait!!

My son may have shot the first turkey of the 2021 season lol.  We had a bird come in right at flydown. He was down by 6:40.  He got his first bird saturday morning. I am super pumped to say the least. I will get a report with pics when I can get it together.

I'll be late to the game.   Leaving here the 25th to haul some butt and be hunting the 26th.  It's a 15 hour drive.

Headed home today. We all hammered stud gobblers and got in some great fishing. Even killed a few hogs. Bird numbers look outstanding as i saw more on my place than ever before.  Wife almost hit the 12" mark again with her bird, just shy. Saw a flock that had 6 gobblers on my buddy's place and noone Even hunts there. Already scheming for next year!

On the same program.  Wasn't going to do it.  Then I won a Super Bowl square that paid for a new pair of snake boots.  Probably not going to hit the woods until the 29th though which doesn't leave me a ton of time to get it done.  Still not sure I want to drop the ~$200 between license, wma fee, and turkey tag for an Eastern though (we'll be North of the famous line).

I got back last Sunday and it was a blast! I killed my bird on Friday morning, then my daughter doubled up Saturday morning. Our birds had the longest spurs that  either of us have killed.

My bird was 20 lbs 14 oz with 1 9/16" spurs
Her biggest was 16 lbs 10 oz with a double beard and 1 7/16" spurs.

I'm already looking forward to next March!
