Quote from: WV Flopper on May 26, 2024, 08:32:27 PMI personally think a few of you guys and gals posting are just plain ignorant of the logistics of cross country hunting.

Obviously the desire to hunt is there. Knowledge lacking.

If you primarily hunt within a 100 miles of your house, you have every opportunity to enable 100% consumption of usable parts of critters pursued! "Locally"

1000-2000 miles is a different story. Think outside your county. Yeah, so, you took a trip one time. Do it for two months straight not seeing your house in between. Two weeks is the same just less volume.

Think guys outside your tiny little sand box.

"As I was loading ice into my cooler a meat cutter came to look at my tailgate. Through discussion he was smoking trout the next day, I gave him two breast and thighs to smoke as well."

If you have a problem with this....IMO, your worthless to society!

Quote from: Old Swamper on May 25, 2024, 09:33:00 PMUnfortunately, there are very, very few I have respect for anymore as turkey hunters. We are indeed a dying breed.

I don't agree, went to the NWTF convention this year, first time, people were fantastic. Brought my daughter and wife,  they were surprised how nice the turkey people were, considerate friendly, welcoming. I've been to a lot of sportsman's shows through many seasons of hunting and fishing, turkey folks are the best
Your entitled to your perception of what a turkey hunter is, and I'm entitled to mine. As stated, unfortunately those I choose to respect as Traditional Turkey Hunters, are few and far between these days. To each there own though.

Congrats everyone. Thanks for allowing Roost and me to join. Really enjoyed getting back into contest play. It's been a few years since and I always enjoy reading others experiences and sharing my own.

I think it is cool to have some calls made out of fence post my great uncle and probably his neighbors put in the ground 60 years ago at least

Season ended yesterday for us. My son wanted to give it a go one last time this weekend. Turkeys have been very active in the evenings so we headed out Saturday to some public. Got on one with a hen but no luck. He wouldn't work for us. After the storms Sunday we headed back out. Found three with several hens and decided to give them a try. We moved into position and had a little luck on our side. The gobblers split from the hens and came right in for my son. 20 yd shot and he filled his last tag. So proud of him this year. Three birds down and I think the fever has hit him. He's learned a lot this year about turkey hunting. It hasn't been easy and he kept at it when time allowed. Can't wait to see his growth next year. He's been practicing his calling.

Nice! Ossage is such a beautiful wood and makes for a killer trumpet.
