Actually took the box call out again this morning. Didn't even need to be rechalked! Also didn't call in a bird, but still sounds good. Who'd have thought the Lynch World Champion would take full immersion so well!

Very interesting.  Those fixed full 1100s shoot quite well (685) was typical.

Another thing that Lubaloy shot he used was actual plating. The so called copper plating on shot now is just a wash, does nothing  for patterns or penetration.

Also finally getting around to posting about my second WV bird from a couple weeks ago.
I went to a spot I had scouted but not hunted yet this year. Knew it held birds but not where any were roosted. As soon as I got out of the truck one gobbled within 150 yards.i set up and he would gobble at everything but me.  at fly down he flew way down the mountain so I made the decision to look for another bird.

I made my way to a power line and spotted hens dusting about 500 yards away. I tried calling to them and a gobbler lit up in the holler between me and the hens. So I back tracked and looped down in the holler.

I set up the first time and called and he answered about 150 yards from me. I also realized I had sat in an anthill. I had to move again. I moved down the logging road and got up against an overturned stump. The road made a 90 degree turn about 20 yards from me so if he continued up the road by the time I could see him he would be within range.  As I continued to call it was like he read the script I wrote. He worked his way right up the road till I killed him at 19 steps.

The gun used was a first for me. It's a marlin model 60 g bolt action .410 I bought it as a freshman in college at a yard sale for $75 . It was made sometime between 1967 and 1969 and throws a heck of a pattern with herters tss. At the shot the gobbler just rolled backwards and never flopped. Overall I was impressed and the rig only ways 5.75 lbs.
