Congrats Hill!! Thanks for the update. Lazy road shooters have no idea how dangerous it is. Glad you were safe and successful.

Unfortunately, there are very, very few I have respect for anymore as turkey hunters. We are indeed a dying breed.

For myself, I would not shoot a turkey if I couldn't eat the meat. I find shooting a turkey for myself and myself only, pointless if it is not for meat consumption. I went out and watched turkeys all day today. Called several into gun range. I'm tagged out, so I had no gun with me, but they were great hunts. I don't need to have a gun to have great time "hunting" turkeys, but I do need one if I'm going to eat their meat, which is the only reason I would have a gun.
I made sure that there were no other hunters around today before I went in there.
If I had a tag I would have shot one, , removed the breast, thighs and drumsticks, heart, liver, gizzard, boiled the carcass for stock, aged it for three days and butchered it into meal sized parts. I would then have many turkey meals for quite a while. It is the only reason that I hunt them. I enjoy every aspect of the hunt, however, those enjoyments come second to the enjoyment of cooking wild turkey.

Thanks
