Why are all the of the older models of the 870 SPS-T's near impossible
To find, compared to new models? It has to be because of a lot more than just being newer.
I'v been trying pretty hard for awhile to buy a greenleaf SPS-T and can never locate one.
I would like to hear what everyone thinks of them side by side, I personally don't like the new ones near as much. My final question is, does anyknow have an idea of how many of the camo variants they made?i believe from about 1994 or 1995 until they changed to the newer style. I checked into the ATF reports of production from Remington, but they clump all of 870 models together. Hope this wasn't too much, thankyou guys! :D

Oh! I owned a 96 model 870 SPST in greenleaf, and sold it. Iv been trying to find another ever since!

Well, really can't speak to old vs. new comparisons, but the fact that you can't find an older one could be because nobody that's got one wants to part with it. They realize what they have. Mine is not as "old" as the ones I think you're referring to ( circa '05 ), but it is one more solid, well made gun. Can't honestly say how it compares to the new SP's but I'm not particularly interested or needing to find out, either.

I believe thats most of it, no one wants to let any go. They seem so much better than the newer models. I really wish I could get my hands on another one, I sold it without knowing what I had.

Lord, how many of us can say that doesn`t apply to me? Probably can count them on one hand, my friend!

Old School Remingtons were made from 1992-1996. I own several and quite a few newer versions. The older were definitely better quality, fit ,finish, more hands on work polished and such. Remington has changed hands several times and I believe that is the main reason why quality has gone down. They still are a good gun but guys want to only pay $300 for one . Remington builds that quality type gun to compete with other gun makers. You definitely get what you pay for.

I am and always have been a Remington guy, although I also own other guns. Their guns ( 870`s 1100`s ) are American gun classics and among the finest ever made. Having said that, I believe that Remington built the Express line to meet the low end price point demand, and you do " get what you pay for". You won`t get Wingmaster quality from an Express, and I don`t think Remington held them out to be so. The more interesting comparison is today`s Wingmaster vs. The Wingmaster of the 60`s and 70`s. IMHO, the only people qualified to compare are those who have owned and utilized guns from both eras.

I have both old and new 870's and like them both. Major differences I've seen were finish(express models), extractor and magazine followers. I've been putting together a newer 20ga for turkey only purposes. I would be surprised if the extractor would give issues for several years due to the amount of shooting during normal turkey hunting so I'll probably hold off upgrading it and just inspect every so often. I did upgrade trigger and in process of getting a new follower because I don't like the way the new one feeds. I did find a early 90's era SPT barrel and had the receiver and barrel cerakoted. I replaced stock with the ATI talon 3 and drilled receiver installed reddot removed rifle sights. Overall happy with the results thus far.

I agree with quality my first shotgun was a newer,870 Express tactical. Compared the the 96 model SPST I had there was no doubt it was much smoother, and just overal put together better. I have to get another one!
