Choke Question

Recently bought a 10 gauge that came with Carlson's Tru-Choke SD installed, I've looked at the choke tube interchange charts and didn't see anything listed for this style. Anyone know of another choke I could use?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike,

The "SD" stands for small diameter and are lead only chokes. According to Carlson's they are for barrels with reduced outside barrel diameters. I believe these would correspond to what others call a "thin wall" design. A standard Tru-Choke may not fit that gun.

Since that gun has a Carlson's choke, I'd recommend that you call them 785-626-3700 and see what they have to offer.

Thanks,
Clark

Clark,

Thanks for the reply I'll give them a call today and see what they come up with.

Any custom choke makers on here? What I wanted Carlson's does not offer.

Hey Mike,
George Trulock is the inventor of the Tru-Choke and Tru-Choke SD. I'd recommend that you call him at 1-800-293-9402. He's a fine man, a true gentleman and as knowledgeable about chokes as anyone in the business.
I hope that helps.
Thanks,
Clark

P.S. What brand of gun is your 10 gauge?

X2 on what Clark said. You could also check with Briley, I think they offer some tru-chokes in the sd style  and also William at Sumtoy could probably make what you need. Sumtoy makes some awesome shooting chokes for sure. Try posting this in the 10 gauge turkey gun forum too, there might be some guys with the same choke setup.

Clark,

This one is actually a Winchester model 37A that has been fitted with a 10 gauge barrel, I attached a picture so you can have a look it's the one on the bottom. I will give George Trulock a call and see what he can come up with.

the Ward,

Thanks for the information if what Clark has suggested doesn't pan out then I'll check out the options you have given me.

Thank you to both of you for all the helpful information.

Hey Mike,

Thank you for the pictures.

That is some gun. I've seen a number of 37A conversions, mainly for card shooting. I've never seen a 10 gauge barrel on one of those guns however. It looks very handy.

I hope George can help you out with what you need.

Thanks,
Clark

Clark,

I was finally able to get in touch with George, a lot of phone tag with the holidays and everything, but he's working on an extended choke with a .690 constriction. Should have it here in a month or so, I'll post some pictures of how it patterns. But I just wanted to thank you again for pointing me in the right direction it eliminated a lot of potential headache.

You're welcome. George is a good man. Glad to hear of the progress.

I bet the thing kicks like a mule. Nice looking rig though.

Oh it does no question about it. Here's a video of my dad shooting it when I first got it.
