Well this season is starting to get a little frustrating for me especially as I see the time slipping away. Been concentrating on an Army base that requires you hunt with a partner and they do a daily draw for areas. No scouting and no access except to hunt so no roosting. Been out 10 time and heard birds all but 1. So I am hearing birds, have had a chance to get on a roosted bird some mornings and others get on them later. Drew an area last Sat that is only open 8 to 12 due to bald eagle activity and called in a great bird that my buddy shot at 0815! Actually had 2 birds coming but 1 ran in the last 75 yds while the 2nd one walked in. Had the bead on one yesterday with the safety off. He was coming in, got to 45 yds saw the decoy and went 90 degrees on me. Thought he was just circling around on me but got into a marsh and didn't come back. A little later had 3 birds going and then just 1 was gobbling. I was thinking they were all still coming, but didn't share that with Chris! We were sitting next to each other when the bird hammered ~50 yds from us. Chris says, I see him I have a shot..Bang and the bird rolled and flew off. So been in birds, worked quite a few, but only have 1 tagged bird to show for our efforts. Having a lot of those stupid mistake days.
Leave for CO this Thurs to chase Merriams for 2 1/2 days. Hopefully I can get it done out there!
