Backpack for carrying gun

I bought a backpack a few years ago when I was still walking with a cane that was supposed to carry both my gun and my bow and crossbow if ever I wanted one.

Well I really like the way it carries my bow on the back of the pack but you attach the gun to the side and I just don't like that as when you are trying to hook the gun up it is getting beaten against the ground.

Can somebody suggest a backpack for my gun that carries the gun on the back and protects the scope? I like to have both hands free as my balance is not 100%

I normally carry a few knives, replacement blades for knife, TP, surveyors tape to mark blood trails, a drag harness (Deer season) Maybe a light breakfast, lunch and a book. Any ideas? I am not getting right away, but would like to before deer season in November. Thanks.

Edit:   I am figuring spending between $75-$150 and if I do not find one in that range that I like I will have to wait until next year I guess.

I believe Kuiu has the carrying capabilities too but their packs are geared toward western hunting. Their material is a little noisy for hunting blinds and treestands.

Horn Hunter makes some great packs. I've got a couple. Their Full Curl is great. I've got the complete system but I doubt you'll need all that. The Full Curl combo would probably do just fine for you. I took is and their Main Beam to Colorado with me. Found myself using the Main Beam the most. If you go with the MB, get their gun bucket and attach it to the bottom. It'll give more support. The FC has "batwings" that'll help protect your gun better though.

The recommendation for Eberlestock is a good idea. You might fit everything you need in their Dragonfly but it's been a while since I've looked at it.

Kuiu makes some great packs and Badlands does as well. BL's tend to have zipper problems but I feel that's probably operator error more than anything. Not knowing your budget, you might look at Kifaru and Mystery Ranch. Biggest thing you've got to understand right out of the gate, these packs aren't cheap. None of them are. But, you can go to Walmart, get a Fieldline pack and watch it destroy itself in short order or buy a good one once and be done with it. I know that HH and BL both have lifetime warranties. HH is U.S.A. made. BL, not so much. Not certain on the others. If Cabelas hadn't been bought out by BPS, and their customer service taken a dive, I'd say look there. Having said that, my money goes to HH because they're bulletproof. Carried 2 lock-on stands and a ladder stand (all together) on my Full Curl. Used it to pack out all 4 quarters and the backstraps of a buck for my buddy last season. Used the Main Beam to carry about 100-120# load of meat last October in CO. They're tough man.

Thanks for all the replies so far, I am sorry I forgot to add my price range, I had intended to and forgot. I am figuring between 75-150 and if I do not find one in that range that I like I will have to wait until next year I guess. I do agree it is better to get the highest quality I can manage, you get what you pay for.

I also agree about Cabella's, I always preferred them over BPS, The backpack above it is the only Redhead thing I have ever owned and not had problems with.  I have had 3 of their bladders for the pack and all 3 have severely leaked out of the box and I have had a pair of their rubber boots that the heal squeaked so loudly when it got wet it would have scared any animal away. Oh and I hate their gun cleaning kits which is another of their store brand items I do not recall the name of.

Anyway I will go look into the products ya'll have suggested above. Thanks again.

I've also used a Tenzing for 10+ years and it is just like it was when I bought it new. I use the Tenzing for bow season and the badlands for gun season/fishing trips.

Both have been used and abused and have held out terrific. Tenzig has more pockets and the Badlands is bigger and better for extra clothes, trips etc.

Thank you for the recommendations. It does not look like the Badlands has a way to attach the gun at all, am I not seeing something? What model is the Tenzing?

I've got one of the game plan gear full rut packs. Great pack but a little on the large side for the amount of gear you listed. However, the bag is great for all day hunts and holds my bow really secure. I believe they are discontinued but you could probably find one on eBay.
