Left SC yesterday at 1:00.  Drove though arkansas and had to double back for all the flooded roads. Got to the spot at daylight.  After sitting there for 35 minutes a bird fired off.  He was across the river.  I waited for a few minutes before heading his way because I wanted to make sure no other birds were closer.  Got to the edge of the river and hit the call...bird started to hammer.  Me and my buddy eased down the river bank for 50 yards or so and set up 15 yards from the banks of the river.  After some crafty callin the gobbler stepped to the edge of the river and started looking.  I went silent on him for 5 minutes and then hit him with a few clucks. I heard wings flapping...HE FLEW the 80 yard wide river straight to the gun barrel. My buddy shot and missed(we think) and the bird took flight and pitched down and started to run.  At 55 yards I laid the hammer on him and so did my buddy at the same time. Guess its chalked up as a half kill.  Bird was 24 lbs.  10.35 beard and 1 5/16 spurs.  We then hit up a public land spot and struck up a bird at 12:45 and I laid him to rest at 12:59. 22 lbs.  10 beard and 1 1/16 spur.  A nice start to the trip!!!!!!  Headin back after em in the AM.

VERY NICE!!!   I tell ya what...when Missouri birds decide to work...there's nothing like in the world.  Huge bodies, rattling gobbles, thunderous drumming, and whole lotta excitement.
